Tip Tanks Poll

Post by Piper_EEWL »

Since the topic was brought up by “guillaume78150” here I thought a poll would be nice to see the preferences.

I use tip tanks on both aircraft, but most of the time I only fill up the main tanks, leaving the tip tanks empty. I only fill up them when doing long flights.

V-tail with tip tanks selected, I don't have the PA-24, but I'm pretty sure I would install the tanks on her too....
Kind Regards
Tomas

Depends on the paint I'm using. If the real plane has tip tanks...

Yes - Commanche
No - Bonanza
I don't fly long X-country legs in either. Just think Bonanza looks better without.

Was a little unsure of how to vote because I prefer the tip tanks on both aircraft - but don't actually use them. I like the look - and I understand that they might provide advantages in drag reduction or stability. But I typically don't fly legs long enough to require them. And I suspect that I wouldn't in the real world, either - I'd be more likely to set down after a couple of hours, stretch my legs, and deal with my own personal, um, tankage...

Like Ron, I do try to match the tank arrangement to the real-world aircraft I'm flying - but I generally choose repaints without tip tanks.

I've always referred to that as "caffeine maintenance". :)

This includes everything from refilling my glass to refilling the ice trays to... you know.

I didn't vote but I think the planes look better with tip tanks.

There was an article in a recent Air & Space - I think the one before the current one - where a woman who flew Navy helos referred to "tactical dehydration," a necessity given the lack of plumbing in her aircraft.

I've adopted that to describe my approach on the Interstate and other confined spaces...

Comanche with tip tanks as I’m flying around the world so needed for the longer legs.
Bonanza without, but mainly because I have not flown it that much as yet.

Comanche with tip tanks because (a) it looks better and (b) I think loaded tip-tanks improves structural stability of the wing

Bonanza without - for now - because I am only using her on short flights.

I run the Comanche with and the Bonanza without. Not really sure why I prefer it that way, just is.
