Low frame rates I’m at a loss

Post by n421nj »

Thanks to some water damage from a busted pipe I was able to upgrade my pc. I have an intel i7 8700k and Nvidia GTX 1080 with 32gb of ddr4 ram. Had to do a clean install of fsx steam and with the settings I was using on my old pc and getting 20-30 FPS with a ton of addons I’m now getting 5-7 FPS with only active sky installed. What’s going on?

Did you ever have any tweaks to your old FSX config file? I believe some of them were to help optimize the 32 bit nature of FSX vs the 64bit hardware.

I could be wrong tho. Only thing that came to my mind.

Since you updated your computer, you might want to check the following things:
- are all of your drivers up to date ? Motherboard (chipset drivers), video drivers ?
- in your video drivers, did you ensure your settings (profiles) were set as before ? It doesn't matter how recent your video card is, the wrong antialiasing setting is going to kill it anyways
- in FSX, did you ensure you deleted the shaders after updating your drivers and settings ?

Ensure in the settings, you do not have a frame rate limit set. Also worth while to check any graphics cards settings as well.

For me, if I have a frame rate cap in my EVGA Software, every time I undock a SHIFT+xx pannel my FPS drops by half. Remove the frame cap from the EVGA software, no problem at all.

You may just have to look and experiment around.

Hello,

yes first things to check would be all the non sim stuff. Make sure drivers are present, make sure drivers are correct and not Windows drivers but proper brand drivers for the given hardware.

thanks,

Hey guys,

Regarding that frame rate drop with undocked windows. I was able to fix it in NCP by setting 'Antialiasing - Mode' to 'Enhance the Application setting'. It may be worth checking out. Have a look in this thread over on the P3D forums.

I think I may be on to something. On display tab it doesn’t show my video card and only gives me one screen resolution. I’ll try downloading nvidia driver later and see if that helps.

check your cables, check you haven't plugged your monitor into on-board display output instead of your graphics card output.

I was in such a rush to get the sim up and running I didn’t pay attention to where I was plugging in. I also had to set up the yoke and the trim wheel and rudder pedals and throttle quads... now the grueling task of reinstalling everything.

You won't be the first person to get in trouble plugging into the wrong device.
