CPU question?

Post by n421nj »

Intel i7 7700k. Or intel i7 8700k? The 7700 has a higher ghz at rest but lower turbo. The 8700k has a higher turbo speed. I’m guessing when playing fsx or p3d the chip goes into turbo automatically?

I personally turn the turbo off for overclocking as it tends to be more stable. The chips going in and out of turbo causes some of the instability you see in these programs. So while I am not running an insane overclock I do boost the chip above stock, and turn off the hyper threading. Leads to more power consumption when I am not messing around in FSX/P3D, but all these years on my 4790k and no issues to speak of. I was looking at doing a new build with the 8700 though, so that is my recommendation to you. That and the Asus Maximum Hero motherboard are what I am looking at for my personal upgrade.
