Paul Allen found the Lexington yesterday 2 miles down in the Coral Sea and in remarkable condition.

Thanks for posting. Very interesting!

Keep the shiny side up and the dirty side down!

Here's the BBC News report - the same video as seen in Harold's Youtube link, but with some period footage thrown in:-

It is quite incredible that after all these years of looking at old photographs of her, black and white ones at that, suddenly she reappears in the flesh. The state of preservation is remarkable, given the warm waters and abundant sea life, barnacles, seaweed and so forth. Look at the TBD - a quick rinse and it would fly again! Wonderful to see. :D

EDIT: The last time we saw her - one of the most recognizable images of the Pacific war;

Looking at some of the comments on youtube (taken with a healthy dose of (sea) salt mostly!), it is mentioned that the coordinates of the Lex's sinking were known, so "found" is a bit of a misnomer, possibly. Still, an amazing undertaking anyway! 8)

SEVEN TBD's have been located by all the counts I've seen so far.

The images of the Devastators are stunning :shock: With even the felix with a bomb cartoon still looking fresh on the side of the cockpits.

These people have clearly never lost theirs keys. Their location is known to the second, but that doesn't mean they can find them! Knowing roughly where something is and finding are not the same thing...
