I've been running an XT Win 7 and want to upgrade to the current century for a flight sim experience, and have some simple cockpit build features, i.e., throttles, trims, radios, etc.

I don't know where to begin and need help.

Planes:
A2A Spitfire
A2A P-51 Military
A2A Cherokee
A2A Comanche
Carenado Seminole
Carenado Dornier DO-228

If I were starting out and had money to spend on a new system I would look into P3D.4. if I wanted to do things on the cheep I would learn as much as possible about the strengths and weaknesses of FSX.

I continue to believe that FSX is a truly amazing program. Just look at how it has spawned an entire industry over the years. I get as much enjoyment out of making the program perform to its full potential as I do out of flying the sim.

I basically got further into the experience one upgrade at a time over the years as I learned new things. There is no magic bullet that will get you into the full experience all at once. It isn't hardware or software. It's what you can learn and implement about simming, computers, programs, flying and airplanes. That's what makes the full flight sim experience.

After flying A2A planes first and then going to Carenado, it was a major let down. The "unfinished" product of Carenado seems to be the constant complaint across the board, and responses from the company to others include "not their priorty" in regards to perfecting a product.

Likewise, talked to a computer sales company yesterday, and rather than making suggestions, that anyone with an IQ above room temperature would know it's in their interest to do so, they told me ask the developers what kind of equipment I need.

Shaking my head.

Hello,

be best to ask what your current rig spec is?

Whats your budget is always important and lastly, your location. As if you are in the US its no good me giving you link to UK stores etc. And with Black friday and cyber Monday coming, if you do it quick the community might be able to point you towards some kit thats on offer. I know I'm already being inundated with emails from amazon and the like letting me know they started early with the discounts lol

thanks,
Lewis

This company refers to A2A (but doesn't say what the hardware is):

What's your thoughts on a box like this by comparison?

Yes if going a pre-build option and located in the US the option is easy. Ring Jetline systems, let them know you are an A2A Simulations customer after a new system and let them know your budget and your sim platform. The Jetline guys are sim specialist system and sim builders. Top notch and happy to help if going the full pre-built system route.

cheers,
Lewis

My old computer died a tragic death about a year ago. I bought a Jetline and haven't looked back. I'm totally satisfied. Here is a Pilot's Lounge thread from about that time: https://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewto ... 23&t=59457. I recommend P3Dv4.1, ORBX scenery, and AS4 weather. And A2A aircraft of course!

P3D went from 32-bit to 64-bit programming with the introduction of version 4.0. Now they're up to 4.1. Two of my FSX-specific A2A aircraft, the J-3 Cub and the P-40, don't work in P3Dv4 and above. Bummer! But the beautiful shading and added realism are worth it, IMHO.

In fact, I was looking for that very thread (for name of computer company) and couldn't find it. I've gone through so many crashes with my 11 y/o XT that I can't even remember how many anymore, but having two in the last week tells me: "It's time."

I have FSX:SE but have been following the progress (problems) with A2A aircraft posted in other platforms, ie., Prepare3D.

Orbx
AS16
Rex 4
LittleNavMap
AirHandler2

My morning coffee is generally flying a cargo run in Carenado's Dornier DO-228, but for the smaller loads, grassy airfields, less than 75ft wide, or anything less in length than a carrier landing, I fly A2A's Cherokee 180.

I "built" my own computer last year to replace a system that I bought almost ten years ago that I simply couldn't upgrade any further. I run FSX Steam Edition (and Cliffs of Dover, several first person shooters, etc.) without any problems and I'm sure I could run P3D v4 also. Anyhow, what I did was:

1. Bought a DELL XPS tower with Intel i7-4790 @ 3.60 GHz processor on sale at Office Max. The CPU is a now an obsolete generation of i7 but it runs great. Go for the fastest processor you can.
2. Installed a 500 GB SSD drive as my main drive and for FSX, and am using the original HDD for all other games and most programs.
3. Installed Windows 10 as my OS to replace the stock Windows 8.1.
4. Replaced the power supply unit with one that puts out more wattage; and
5. Added a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card (the reason for the PSU upgrade).
6. The computer currently has 8GB of RAM... I don't remember if it is stock or if I upgraded. But 8GB is plenty.

You can easily start out with a better PC than I did as your base, seeing as it is now a year and a half later. Whatever you buy will probably already have Windows 10 installed, too. You can add a second drive pretty easily if you wish. You'll probably also want to upgrade whatever graphics adapter comes stock; most often PCs come with an integrated adapter or at best a 1GB dedicated graphics card.
