Speed Record

Post by DHenriques_ »

Steve has made 4 successful runs. Everything went well and he's done and safe.
The numbers will tell the rest of the story.
Stay tuned!

Hard to get used to seeing Voodoo in white. Still looks good though.

I'm looking forward to hearing what the actual times were.

It's a bit puzzling how it came out. They broke the record for their class by a ton but came up 3 mph short for the world record.
So they won one and lost one. A great effort by a great team.

Yeah, it looks like they did beat Rear Bear's record but not by 1%, which I guess is the standard. Sounds like maybe an oil pressure drop hindered that last lap by forcing him to stay closer to the field.

Still a great job, it's amazing how they continue to find speed in these aircraft.

This from Steve Hinton Sr via Chris Fahey;

Ok. From Steve Hinton Sr. "Ok. Here is the deal.
Today Stevo and Voodoo flew 4 consecutive runs at an average speed of 531.6
mph. As voodoo crossed the finish line on lap 3 the engine was showing signs
of problems. Not blown up but it's tung was out. He shortened his last turn
around to complete the 4th run and recorded the slowest of the 4 by 12 mph.
He landed safely but "That's racing"
Rare Bear record was 528 so he fell short of beating that record but he set
a world speed record for his weight class C1E category so now Voodoo has the
fastest recorded piston powered propeller speed to date.
That is what the official history books will show.
Congrats to Stevo Hinton, Bob Button, Voodoo Crew and Aviation Partners.
Who knows what the future holds for this but today was EPIC.
