I bought a lot of food but I noticed on the Kelloggs box of cereal Raisin Bran there was an offer that if you purchased 5 of some of their products and cut out their coupons and mailed the offer in you would get a free DVD.One of the movies was Twelve O'Clock High with Gregory Peck.
I already sent in the offer. The cereal was half price anyway at my local Safeway store so it was a good deal.

Wow a free WW2 B17 bomber movie DVD.I couldn't pass that up.

I looked on Netflix
and it got good reviews. It is from 1949 and accurately describes the war as you can read from the wonderful reviews. I'll put it in the queue.

There was a television series based on the movie too by the same name I believe.
It came out sometime in the 1960's.O.K. 1964 to be exact.I thought it was 1965.
I found a link.

My dad was working at a television station and he was able to have enough pull to convince them to broadcast it locally.

I've seen the 1949 movie on television a couple of times

I have had this movie for several years. I consider it my favorite B-17 movie period.

I think too that it is the best B17 movie out there.
But for film l like the William Wyler Memphis Belle Army Air Force documentary the best(the documentary not the Memphis Belle movie).
Twelve O'Clock High and the Memphis Belle war documentary make a good pair.

One war movie that I liked a lot was Stalag 17 with William Holden.

I remember as a youngin that the T.V. series came on after my bed time of 8:00 p.m. I think the show came on at 9:00. I use to sneak down the steps (if I didn't get caught) and would sit there in the shadows and watch the program as my father watched it.

Though based on a fictional bomb group, it was still an exciting program to watch.

"Twelve O'clock High" is definatly a great b17 movie the series was
very good also. I would also highly recommend "The War Lover" with
Steve McQueen. I believe it's just as good and maybe a little bit
better.

Yeah I've heard that B-17's were used for firefighting duty.
When I was very young my father worked as a motion picture machine operator(projectionist) as well as at our local television station.Me and my brothers got to see all the Sean Connery James Bond movies for free up in the theater balcony all by ourselves.
In the James Bond movie Thunderball there is a rescue B-17 towards the end of the movie.
Dad loved those James Bond movies.

Thanks Pointman I'd love to hear those stories.
It's very sad that your great uncle was killed a lot of airmen didn't make it.
My dad was pretty lucky to have survived the war intact.
In the last couple of days I found out a lot of the names and serial numbers of the planes that my father flew and most of them were either shot down or crashed taking with them a lot of brave airmen.
Dad lost a lot of friends.I am learning new things about my father even though he passed away nearly 2 years ago.
