Random and interesting NON-AVIATION videos thread

Post by Nick - A2A »

The topic title may come across as a bit heretical but we're a well-rounded and worldly bunch right? We think about non-aviation stuff too? Just wondered what videos people would like to share that have—and this is the tricky bit—nothing to do with aviation whatsoever! (You know, those videos you see on Youtube and think "Wow! - I've got to show someone else that..."

I'll start off with a video of I guy who I think is genuinely awesome (no apologies to Paul K on this occasion, and yeah I first learned about him due to a post over at CBFS. ). Danny MacAskill, Scottish trials cyclist in the epic (see what I did there Paul?) Imaginate:

Any cool videos you guys have seen? (Remember... No planes... And no bloody kittens either! )

Cheers,

This video was linked to me by an old friend from my seafaring days and I found it very interesting, as the occurrence is analysed in some detail. Military history in the raw, I'm afraid - it's not a comfortable thing to watch. The choice of accompanying music is rather odd, but it can be silenced of course.

No kittens, Nick - just a Panther.

I love that first video. I'm still trying to get confident enough to bunny hop jump logs in my bike and then I saw that! :) Thanks a lot Nick! I should just give up eh?

Speaking of "eh?"... Here is a guy from BC that I love to follow on Youtube. Real skookum. I like to collect tools because I am a hobbyist mechanic and pretty handy around the house. There is some language so be warned, but the guy makes very very dry tool review material very fun to watch (at least for me).

Indeed - that's some pretty stark footage Paul: more so than the WWII aerial gun camera footage of which I've seen quite a bit and which tends not to show the human aspect.

For some reason I though the second part of your sig mentioned an "anti-epic backlash" hence my incomprehensible "see what I did there" remark above. I think there should be an anti-epic backlash anyway!

Yeah, sorry! I feel a bit inadequate too watching that level of skill and risk-taking. Talking of which did you see his other video Oracle: The Ridge?

Nice, er, grinder review by the way! I was shocked too by the lack of keyway on that pinion.

If you like tooling, you may appreciate this one as well...

(Can't be sure, but think I also saw it first on CBFSim forum a while ago.)

 Indeed, Nick. And an anti ' it's of biblical proportions' backlash too.

Thanks Elaine - that guy made my eyes water a bit!

Great idea for a thread Nick! :D

Nice videos so far everyone.........that guy on the BMX was on the news wasn't he, a few months back? Jumping off of a phone box and across the wall of a white cottage.
That is one of those skills that requires lots of injuries to perfect!

I enjoy the tank chats that Bovington recently started doing;

Good stuff chaps. :) John, I especially liked that third video you linked: practical science vids like that would have made a few schools lessons more interesting!

Lewis - thanks, I love stuff like that. David Fletcher MBE seems to be the quintessential English 'buff' (complete with a moustache specially crafted for delivering 'tank chats').

No moustaches, but here's some typically British silliness (and talent) which made me smile...

Looking at the first 30 seconds, not surprised you're "out on injury" mate. I've always preferred water sports because generally it doesn't hurt so much when I fall over/off/out!

Moving to comedy, here's a guy I've seen live before. The brilliant Mr Tim Minchin in a specially sanitized 3 minute performance for the Royal Variety Performance...

Thanks for that, Lewis. Those tank chats are very interesting. He doesn't seem hugely impressed with the quality or usefulness of inter-war British designs, does he ?

...Speaking of tanks, here's my recommendation for a very cheap game on Steam which is rather good fun. I think Besiege was designed more as a medieval siege warfare physics game, but obviously blokes given access to something like this will build... Tanks!
