Good to hear John, Ill be wondering around in my A2A Shirt and Cap. Dovetail, Midland Computers and Mutleys Hanger will be displaying A2A Aircraft so ill be around those stands talking to the guys and girls there + as my second only visit to Cosford still much to explore as the stuff they have there is so damn rare you just cannot find it anywhere else, esp in the prototype hanger, so much important aviation history.

If/when you see me grab me for sure!

cheers,

So Lewis,

I would love to go, but being in California and short of funds and time the best I can do is look at the web site.

While looking at the web site I noticed the following:
Please note that there is a height restriction of 12ft 9in under the railway bridge approaching the airfield.
I was shocked to see the height restriction in ft and inches, I thought the U.S. was the only country left in the world that did not use the metric system.

Does England use the Imperial System of measures?

The easiest way to describe it is that we use a bit of both! Construction and the vast majority of trade etc is done in metric because it cuts down on mistakes ordering stuff from mainland europe. Distances, like road journeys, are still in miles, but prolly cos their to cheap to replace ALL the road signs, which are in miles. Milk is sold by the pint, petrol by the liter. Loose fruit (those not in packages of 6 for example) are sold in either pounds or kg. Schools teach wholly in metric.

We've been slowly switching over since the 60s or so if i remember rightly, so i reckon in another 20 or so years we'll be fully metric .... cept for road sings, for the aforementioned reason

I'll definitely be there. Hopefully, I'll get another go with Oculus Rift, which is astounding. Away from the flight sim show, the museum now has a VC-10 tanker on display, so I'm looking forward to seeing that - and every other aircraft they have, of course. The only complete Vickers Valiant left is a particular favourite. :)

Thank you for the explanation. During the late 70's the U.S. had road signs in km and in miles for a short time as the trend at that point was to change over to the metric system. All children are taught both the metric and imperial system in schools. With the Ronald Reagan presidency all efforts to change to metric were abandoned and there has been no suggestion to go to metric since that time. The speedometers in cars have for the most part lost the metric inner dial numbers as well. In 20 years the U.S. will still be a country using imperial measures.

There was a law in the 1970's that the US was to convert to the metric system. The industry told the government ok and here is what it will cost. Nothing much happened right after that. But since the 1980's many things have been slowly changing to metric.

Looking forward to seeing you again Ian and Paul, really looking forward to it. Just hope the drive is ok again this year, last year though it involves getting up and leaving at like 5am was actually a really fun drive, with several bottles of lucozade of course hehe.

I've just been informed that Grandad is prepared to look after one or two of the terrible twosome, so our trip is back on... Now I just need to find some money behind the sofa for the tickets!
