Best Propliner for FSX

Since upgrading from XP to Windows 7 I have been gradually reloading addons. i am mostly sticking with A2A and ORBX and flying the B377 and Comanche around the Pacific Northwest. I am looking for a propliner to complement the B377. I had the Just Flight DC3 which I liked, even though I had to put together a better sound set for it. Unfortunately, I cannot find my old link so what ever I get I will have to actually pay for unless there is a good freeware propliner out there somewhere. I am somewhat inclined again to go with a DC3, but all suggestions will be appreciated.

The JustFlight DC-3 is terrible, in my opinion. It looks more like a digital recreation of a bad plastic model of the DC-3 than a recreation of the actual aircraft, it doesn't handle much differently than the default DC-3 and also doesn't offer any system depth to speak of. I tried to convince myself that I like it, but I retired it very quickly and never felt the urge to reinstall it again. Wasted money all around. And I'm saying that as someone whose favourite aircraft of all time actually is the DC-3. An A2A DC-3 would be my holy grail!

Perhaps have a look at the Uiver DC-2. It's certainly better modelled and also has some rudimentary engine modelling that can make them burst into flames when you handle the wrong.

Also, PMDG is currently working on a DC-6, which will very likely be great. It will be first released for X-Plane and later for FSX and P3D. The caveat is that PDMG release schedules are impossible to predict. The DC-6 was announced years ago and allegedly is nearing completion. But when it's actually going to be released is anyone's best guess. Could be this year, coud be next year or could be 3 years from now. Who knows?

Try Manfred Jahn's C47/DC3 available as freeware from SimOutHouse. It is widely acclaimed by people who know about stiuff like this, to be as good as it gets! You have to be registered to have access to downloads.

So far nothing on the market compares to the b377. The pmdg dc6 looks very promising but I bet it will lack the career mode of the capt of the ship.

I'd also suggest having a look at UIVER Douglas DC-2. It has some non-standard system modelling (mainly hydraulic system), together with huge variety of paint schemes. All the funds go to UIVER's DC-2.
Also, there is a freeware Soviet Lisunov Li-2 (copy of Dc-3) made by using a FSX sdk's Douglas DC-3 model. It has Soviet gauges, some non-standard systems:

Can't comment on the A2a B377, as I don't have it. Best by far, that I can vouch for, see below :-

I think the post is after old piston engine airliners more than today's ones. The MJ Q400 is likely the best of the modern props, though it desperately needs better sounds. Of classic propliners, I can't really think of anything except A2A B377, the upcoming PMDG DC-6 and the DC2 and DC3 mentioned already. I haven't tried any of those, but many have spoken highly of them (except the DC-6 which is not yet released of course!). An A2A DC-4 would be great project also, but I don't think we are getting one any time soon at least.

Another category we are missing, and which would beg for Accusim attention, are the heavy twins, like 400-series Cessnas and big twin Pipers. Those were once the workhorses of the industry, though not really proplines, so likely they belong to their own topic.

Oh. I was thinking vintage propliners only as well. But if modern ones like the Dash-8 are also an option you should definitely also have a look at the PDMG J-41. It's great!

For my money you can't beat the HS748. It's free and you can find a revue of it here.

I thought the HS748 was an FS2004 model ported and not an FSX native simulation??

That's absolutely right Lewis, but it is still a wonderful aircraft. The sounds are great, she handles superbly and there is another panel available that makes it imperative that you manage fuel heat and other facilities. The auto pilot takes a bit of getting used to, but then it is an old system. It truly is a marvellous craft. Sadly, as I fly singles only and low 'n' slow now (http://www.cixvfrclub.org.uk/index.php) I don't get to fly it any more.

Talking of the JustFlight DC-3, I have a lot of right seat DC-3 time and once when doing a guided tour of the cockpit had a young man up front that wasn't very pleased with the layout and said that it was all wrong. Looking at him, I thought he must have been flying them since he was a baby, but he told me he had the JustFlight example and it was nothing like what we were sat in. I tapped the panel and then said that this was real and what he had was a poor replica. Still wouldn't have it and left quite upset. Shame.
