A2A Simulations Helicopters
A2A Simulations Helicopters
Hello, happy Sunday morning to all.
I'm just wondering has the A2A team ever considered Helicopters into the future. An A2A whirly bird would be pretty cool.

Hi Elaine
A 91 year old aviator friend told me his theory on why helicopters were capable of flight.

Re: A2A Simulations Helicopters
Go on then Spad, what was his theory?
Elaine, I suspect that Accusim is a gradual accumulation of skills and knowledge, most of which won't be applicable to helicopters.
So, I'd think that A2A would be almost starting at the beginning again.
I'd like to see an A2A helicopter and love to see A2A on X Plane, but in both cases they'd be stepping away from what they do best I think.

Re: A2A Simulations Helicopters
An accusimmed helicopter, if able to be done, would be a game changer. It probably would mean starting from scratch but I think it would be worth it. Especially on the real world training side of things. Helicopter time is so expensive so to be able to supplement some of that time in a sim would be a win win for everyone.

Well he say " They are so darn ugly , the ground repels them."
Re: A2A Simulations Helicopters
Did you never try to fly one ? I spent many days to control the default Bell in a hovering and maneuvers.
It's a very stimulating challenge.Since I downloaded many beautiful heli from Hovercontrol.

Re: A2A Simulations Helicopters
Yes, I've got the Huey for DCS and a few helicopters for X Plane (such as the Dreamfoil 407).
They can be a challenge.
There aren't many decent helicopters for FSX/P3D, so I agree there's a gap in the market.
edit: Sorry no, I've never tried to fly one RW, just in simulators

Re: A2A Simulations Helicopters
They're not really capable of flight, they just beat the air into submission. My instructor described flying a rotary with balancing on a basket ball. One of man's/woman's greatest achievements me thinksspadjockey wrote:Hi Elaine

Re: A2A Simulations Helicopters
Elaine,
Try the Dodo-sim Bell 206 if you don't have it already. It's as close to an Accu-sim helicopter as you'll ever find. You can get it into retreating blade stall, settling with power, and can cook the engine (hot start) if you don't follow the start procedure correctly. It even has a virtual hangar of sorts. I mothballed all my other FSX helicopters after I got the Dodo-sim.
I agree that an A2A helicopter would be really cool .

Re: A2A Simulations Helicopters
The Dreamfoil helis for X Plane are also well rated if you have that simulator.
(Froogle says you shouldn't limit yourself to just one sim.....)
Rotorwash, I've just started reading Stick and Rudder and according to Wolfgang, planes also fly by beating the air into submission, sort of.
(I think he used the phrase "pounding it down" anyway).

I totally agree!batt wrote:Elaine,

The Dodosim is the nearest thing to an A2A Aircraft and although it's a little bit well advanced in years, it's still one of the most accurate Heli-Simulation I've ever seen for a home-simulator.
Not only it simulates the behaviors batt has mentioned, it also simulates the effective translational lift (ETL) and the Behavior in HIGE and HOGE.
If you are Hovering in Ground Effect (HIGE) and then give a little bit torque, so that the Heli is climbing a little bit, most Sim-Helos are climbing continually, but not so the Dodo .
If the Helo arrives at an altitude of about the Rotor Diameter, the climbing stops correctly according to the physics.
No other Helicopter Sim I know is doing that.
Like an A2A Acf, you can fly the Dodo "by Ear": descent to fast and you'll hear the rotor slapping, and so on
To that I agree totally too!!!batt wrote: I agree that an A2A helicopter would be really cool .
What an Imagination to have an Aircraft with all those functions like the A2A ones.
How great could that be?
Best greetings

Unfortunately as it stands at the moment no one on the team has any real helicopter experience let alone a license.
Thanks,

Re: A2A Simulations Helicopters
Might be less expensive to hire an eggbeater pilot onto the team.
BTW, my favorite two helicopters are the piasecki h-21c (The Famous "Flying Banana") and the bell model 47 series.(to me, the 47 is kinda like a "flying Jeep"

Orville's law: when the altitude of the ground at your current location exceeds the altitude of your aircraft, you have most assuredly crashed.
Re: A2A Simulations Helicopters
I apologize for suggesting a business relationship(such things often come to a bitter end), but I think that some kind of a collaborative effort between A2A and Dodosim is probably what would have to happen. Say perchance: A2A to do the modeling and virtual cockpit while Dodosim would do the coding, physics, flight dynamics, etc.. As Lewis suggested above, A2A has no rotary wing experience, however on the other hand Dodosim does have that in spades, but seems to be in need of help in the modeling department these days.
