Thanks for this! My mother worked on the Norden Bomb Sight at Hawthorne (HHR) Airport in California during WW II. At the time, the Norden was a Top Secret item.

Being Top Secret is the reason why the Bombardier removed the Sighthead after each mission. I'm sure the crew also had orders to destroy the Sighthead, should the plane crash land in enemy territory.
