The Collings Foundation has acquired the Pearl Harbor survivor P-40B from Duxford (UK) and it will be returning to the States soon!

I can't wait to finally see it...

What is The Fighter Collection up to ? Following six years of restoration, their P-47 is sold after just one airshow season in the UK and now the P-40B is going. Not to mention the departures of the P-39, the F7F and their B-25. Our resident B-17, Sally B, will probably be heading back across the pond within the next two or three years too, by all accounts. I've never been so pessimistic about the warbird scene in the UK.

I'm popping into Duxford tomorrow and wondering what I'll see in the hangers. Been good few years since my last visit!

Be sure to take lots of pics to share with us, Lewis. It's been many, many years since I had a chance to visit Duxford, and I was a little young to get as much as I could out if the experience!

The Collings Foundation now has a P-40B

First time my lil mans been to one of the big aviation museums. Be an interesting day with a 16 month old :)

I've only got my phone as Duxford trip is off shoot of Christmas shopping in Cambridge. Nevertheless I'll try and get as many photos (even dodgy quality) as I can before battery dies.

Thanks,
Lewis

Sadly, I think a combination of continuing restrictive regulations and skyrocketing insurance costs are making warbird ownership very difficult in the UK unless the airplane can be placed on a limited or standard airworthiness type certificate. Add to that the skyrocketing AvGas price in Europe and it's a perfect storm for needing to either ground or sell off warbirds that can't make you money.

Here in the US, the advent of several types of unleaded fuels that will have equal or superior performance to AvGas means we may be able to keep them flying here, but I don't know if the EU has even started trials of any of the fuels to get them certified over there to help you guys out.

Was a great day. I met up with Trumper who posted here in the thread (and who I haven't seen for 7 years!). My son loved it and I loved it that little bit more because of that. Was a great day, ill post up some pictures on the A2A facebook page though I only had my Phone for snaps. Gary 'Trumper' had his big Canon jobby though so he might be able to better share some great images.

thanks

A heck of a lot less than last time you were there, Lewis. Its not just TFC - the IWM has disposed of about 12 static exhibits to other museums - the Varsity and Sea Venom for example. Bring back Ted Inman - he would never have turned down the offer of an F-14. Its all a bit depressing.
