Got to sit in an F4U-7 Corsair!

Post by flyboy4612 »

Hey everyone!
Well I ventured on over to the air museum in Tillamook, Oregon and paid for another cockpit session like I did with the P-47 last year. What a cool bird! I don't see how one couldn't feel confident flying into combat with that thing. I had a big smile on my face when the guy said it was ok to close the canopy. It was awesome being closed in and moving the stick and rudder around for a bit looking for imaginary bandits! I figured you all would be interested to see some of the photos.

BEAUTIFUL pictures flyboy. BEAUTY! Say, that oil pressure / temp / fuel pressure gauge looks awful familiar :-) Can you imagine trying to put it on a rolling, pitching steel postage stamp in the middle of blue water?

My favorite part of the experience happened before I even got in the aircraft. It was really dark in that big ol' blimp hangar so the museum gentleman opened up the hangar door to let in some light. Well, I was wearing my flight jacket with my private pilot wings on it and there was a group of tourists from some other part of the world. Who knows what language they were speaking. Anyway, when the doors opened and I started to walk over and climb in, they all got really excited and started taking dozens of pictures of me. Haha, they thought I was the Corsair pilot and I was getting ready to fly. I felt like such a badass!

I can picture it now: The hangar doors open to bright sunlight, dazzling those inside. A lone silhouette strides into view.
Now that is cool.
Great pics too, I love seeing those beat up panels :)

Of course! If I'm going to spend time day dreaming while sitting in a Corsair, I'm going to be an ace!

I had a dream last night that I was flying this exact Corsair at my home field (KHSD) and my old flight instructor was talking me through it on the radio... I woke up a happy man :D

Cheers!

I want so bad that A2A would make Accusim F4U. Corsair is IMO the meanest, coolest and the most bad a** US fighter of WW2. Please!
