How about one of these
It's a Hawker Siddeley 748. Built to replace DC-3's. Currently 20ish flying in the Canadian wilderness just shows how well they were made. Powered by RR Darts.

Old iron. I'd love one. I used to fly on these a lot with BA out of Manchester in the 80s and early 90s. They often leaked oilseaniam81 wrote:How about one of these [HS 148]
Even had a flight deck ride in one once.

That looks like the Britannia at Duxford. I've been on it several times (as an exhibit) - an extraordinarily beautiful aircraft. They should keep it indoors! A reminder of the gentler days of air travel, and a time when the UK still had an industry to speak of. The flight deck on that thing is awesome. There was a 66 seat version of the 300 series aircraft that had a cocktail bar and an after lounge, and just pairs of double seats from front to back- across a 12ft cabin. Then there was a 62 seat version that had a 20 seat first class cabin with...armchairs! They folded out into beds. There's plenty of these aircraft around at museums and many pilots still living. I'd love one for FSX and accusim..almost tempted to make it myself!Lewis - A2A wrote:Beautiful aircraft

Re: Turbo-props, jets?
I would love to ride in one as a passenger. But alas I could not. I only rode in one as a crew member with the H.S. 748 loaded with cargo. Hand bomb on and hand bomb off.
Heading into Webequie (CYWP). 3500ft gravel runway, makes for an interesting landing with no reverse pitch. But it did have a ground fine setting for the props, made a pretty good break.
And Lansdowne House (CYLH). Slightly less then 3500ft of gravel.

Re: Turbo-props, jets?
I bet that was fun! Great to see these aircraft operating there.
Makes me sad when I think about the British aircraft industry and it's decline. Hawker Siddely made such great aircraft. Like the Harrier for example. And the Trident could have been the 727 of the world were it not for the short sightedness of the management. Still an amazing aircraft.

Don't forget the H.S. 121 Trident that thing was pretty cool too.
