FS ATC Workaround

Post by UberCougar »

Sick of FS ATC referring to you as type 'experimental' ?

Here's a simple workaround:

Open aircraft.cfg and look for the lines

[General]
atc_type=Experimental
atc_model=

and adjust them to read

atc_type=A10
atc_model=A10

FS ATC will now refer to you as type 'Thunderbolt' and call you by your tail number :)

Try this...

atc_type=Republic
atc_model=P47

I believe they are both standard FS9 ATC types and models. At least it works for me.

Even better, I couldn't find either Republic or P47 in the manufacturer / model list I was using - cheers for tip :)

I take it a few steps further.

For each aircraft I modify the atc_id, atc_airlines and atc_flight_number entries. For example,

atc_id=225742
atc_airline=ARMY
atc_flight_number=5742

as well as modifying the atc_type and atc_model in the [general] section as follows:

atc_type=REPUBLIC
atc_model=P47

The atc_id is the full tail number if there is one, and the atc_airline is the military branch of the aircraft,. For the flgiht number I use either the four or three last characters of the atc_id, or even the plane number.

When I communicate with the ATC I'm recognized as "Army 5742" flying a "Republic P-47."

It takes a while to set these up for each texture for each aircraft, but its worth it if you use the ATC a lot as I do.

I think you need

atc_type=North_American
atc_model=P51

I'll check my config later to confirm.

It works well with these settings:

atc_type=North_American
atc_model=Mustang

sorry that it went a lot about the p51 since this is the Thunderbolt forum, but i think that the same method applies for that aircraft.

Thanks anyway
