Weather in Spanish

Post by Basilisco »

In instant action, the weather text in Spanish don't work. It does not write any text.
Are you going to correct it?

Is this with the international version? Where is the place
this text should appear? And how well do other texts work
in Spanish - is it generally good?

Yes , It is with the international version.
In "instant action" -- "parameters" -- "weather". Between "localization" and "time"
There are 3 options in "weather" and the text appears without any.

The text rest in Spanish is very good. Please correct this. Thanks you.

A couple of other quick questions: has this always been like this,
or did it change recently? Alternately, could you take a look at
the file <bob_root>\Spanish\Text\boblang.dll and tell me what date
it shows as last modified? Thanks.

...In the spanish language boblang.dll dated June 23 2004, I am seeing
"Despejado Nubes y claros Cubierto Tormentoso", which seems correct,
in the slot where "Sunny Fair Poor Inclement" goes in the english version.
Not sure why it wouldn't display (I don't have an international version
here to play with).

I've never seen the weather text. I installed a beta version 2.13 and neither I can.
It does not appear at all, without any text. Also with the file "boblang.dll" of the version 2.12 on June 23 , 2004.

Install the international version and youself will be able to see it.

Can you give me a new version of "boblang.dll" with the made correction?

And if you want, give me the source file and I got it to make a correct translation into Spanish. Because I see that no one has seen the translation into Spanish.

I think it must be about the size of the text, as if it don't fit in the allotted space.

I presume one must have an International version of the original
cd in order to run the international patch, and I don't have one.
I would guess you had to purchase an International Edition
of BoB2, originally, yes?

I only have the same boblang.dll for spanish language that you have -
dated June 23 2004; for some reason it was included in the english language
version. There has been no update. And the file seems to have the
right words in the right place, so the problem must lie a bit deeper.
And if you want, give me the source file and I got it to make a correct translation into Spanish. Because I see that no one has seen the translation into Spanish.
I don't have access to the source for BoB2 or its subsequent patches.
I only have the "source" for the Campaign Help files, which I got by
downloading the microsoft help tool and decompiling the help file
myself. We currently have one (mostly) active coder with access
to the current code. He has recently made some headway in getting
changes into the campaign menu windows text, but I don't know
if he could fix this issue.
I think it must be about the size of the text, as if it don't fit in the allotted space.
That is what I thought, too, so I looked into the compiled boblang.dll
with a viewer, comparing the english to the spanish, I found the string
lengths between english and spanish versions were different everywhere,
so if you are seeing all the other texts OK, that can't be the cause.

Hi Basilisco,

We only learned how to change the strings and dialogs late last year. There are many things about them we still don't understand.

Is this what you are seeing?

Alright, PV pointed me to the error you are seeing. I'll take a look.

By the way, if you are willing to help with the Spanish strings and dialogs, I will be happy to make the changes. For example, the dialog I posted above is from the Campaign's weather report. Clearly there is a problem with string length. How would you like it to look/read?

There were some strings missing from the string table. Here is a revised Spanish language file.

Copy this into the folder for your language, then rename the file boblang.dll.

Please let me know if you'd like any other strings or dialogs changed.

I do not read the weather texts in instant action-parameters.

In campaign-directive: 11 group squadron: "Escuadrón del grupo 11" , the "11" do not read.
In 10 12 group squadrons. "Escuadrones del grupo 10, 12", the "12" do not read. Shortens the word: "Escuadrones" to "Escua." and so be better.

The the weather in campaign is partially translated. I can traslate better.

If you want I can change the file if you give me the source file. Then the translate will go to next parch the "2.13" e.g.

Hi Basilisco,

The string tables are in ActiveX and not easily to search or change. Each language has about 5900 strings. I will do the work of finding the strings and applying your changes if you agree.

Code access is through the BDG. Contact PV if you think you must have access.

I will go through each dialog and provide a spreadsheet of the current Spanish string and the equivalent English string. Also, I will provide a screenshot of the English dialog so it will be easy for you to compare the English dialog with what you see on your installation of the game.

Here is the most recent Spanish language file. Please remember to rename the file boblang.dll, and place it in your Spanish language folder.

Last night I changed the campaign weather dialog. Does this meet with your approval?

Here is the first spreadsheet. It contains the strings for RAF Directives, Proposed Patrols, Weather, and Aircraft Allocation dialogs. I'll work on getting the strings of the other dialogs indexed for you as well. This is in Open Office spreadsheet format.

You can see that "Clima" = "Weather" is blank. The three boxes in "Clima" are blank.

My corrects for part1 are here:

Hi Basilisco,

Ok, I think I know why you can't see the updated strings. Here I think we are dealing with one of the mysteries that keep BoBII development interesting.

Do you have a folder \English\Text\ ?

Try moving the new boblang.dll file into that directory. If this works, then we know that an international installation copies the specific language .dll into the English directory. Curious, but if it works it works.

I've made the string changes from part 1 and will post screenshots later today. I'll have part 2 ready tonight.
