Welcome to the forum.
Look in the repaint section for the P51 or search flightsim.com and avsim.com.

The P-51 that was released on the "WWII Fighters" CD is essentially the same as the later Wings of Power 2 / SOLO version except that it used lower-resolution textures. The WWII Fighters paint should work with WoP2.

(It has been a few years since I've played with repaints for WWII Fighters so I could be mistaken.)

I will try to help if I can...

I have the "Wings of Power II: World War II Fighters" CD, which includes P-51D 'Snooks/The Flying Undertaker', released c. 2005. I also have the "Aircraft Power Pack" DVD which includes a bonus installer for the Wings of Power II P-51D, which is also the Snooks/TFU paint. The DVD was released in late 2006, approximately close to the same time A2A offered an online version of the WoP2 P-51D 'Snooks/TFU' as part of a product line named SOLO, which was basically four of the aircraft from the WWII Fighters CD rereleased as individual downloads.

I did not buy the SOLO version of the Mustang back then for the obvious reason that I already had it on the two discs. It is no longer offered at the A2A Online Store, though I'm sure it is still available through other vendors. For comparison's sake, I installed the APP DVD version tonight, which I believe to be the same version as the online SOLO release.

The menu on APP shows the P-51D as 'Wings of Power II' (and not 'WWII Fighters'). After installing into FSX, the model appears in the FSX menu as 'WWII Fighters P-51D' (not A2A or Wings of Power II).

I then navigated to my FSX folder and looked under 'SimObjects' then 'Airplanes.' The model's folder is named WWII_FIGHTERS_P51D

Inside that folder are all of the base model's files including the 'texture.snooks' subfolder. If so far everything matches what you have, provide a link to the texture you are trying to add and I'll test it out on my end.

If you are using WoP2 P-51 in FS2004 (and not FSX) let me know. I have FS2004 also. The folder names are slightly different between the two sims.

Edit: Mine is Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\WWII_FIGHTERS_P51D. There is not a 'texture.snooks' subfolder, only a 'texture' subfolder. This is the same with both WWII Fighters CD and the Aircraft Power Pack DVD; by all appearances and functionality they are the same model.

** In my first reply, I confused this thread with a different post asking about installing WWII Fighters into FSX Steam Edition. Sorry.

There is a "Jumpin' Jacques" repaint for the Shockwave WWII Fighters P-51D by Jan Kees Blom in the AVSIM library. Shockwave is A2A's old company name. The file was uploaded January 28, 2008. The download is named 'jacques.zip.'

There is a second "Jumpin' Jacques" in AVSIM Library by Ren Bouwman. It was uploaded August 15, 2007 and is "a repaint only for the WOP P-51D and WWII Fighters P-51D." The download is named 'jumpin_jacques.zip.'

There are many other A2A/Shockwave WoP2/WWII Fighters P-51 repaints at AVSIM Library including RAF schemes. You'll have to register at AVSIM to search and download.

For the FS2004 version of the WoP2 Mustang you have to use the standard resolution textures compatible with the original release. In May 2009, A2A released an update patch for the FSX version that allowed for higher resolution textures. Those texture files are larger in size and are incompatible with FS2004.

The Jan Kees Blom version of 'Jumpin' Jacques' installed to FS2004 with no problems at all and it looks great in the sim. When installed, it is filed under 'North American' in the menu by default, not 'WWII Fighters' or 'Wings of Power.'

I tried the Rene Bouwman version too but I didn't have any luck with it, even after some editing and renaming.

The P-51D/H is the original Wings of Power release, circa 2004. It is NOT the later Wings of Power 2 or WWII Fighters generation.

AVSIM Library is still probably your best starting place for a search since it has been around a long time. Look for Shockwave as the developer instead of A2A Simulations.

The Rene Bouwman version of Jumpin Jacques does work with the WoP P-51D/H. I have that package installed in FS2004 and I just retested that skin. It loads as a different category than the original Wings of Power models (it isn't listed as 'combat' or 'combat w/tanks') and I think that is because one of the WoP patches briefly created civilian vs. military weight distinctions. I didn't try adding the texture set to the 'WoP P51D_t' folder or to the P-51H variants but my guess is the repaint work for those as well, with proper editing to adjust the respective Aircraft.cfg entries.

Okay, I got it all figured out for the drop tanks version also...

1) Copy the 'texture.jumpinjacques' folder from Rene Bouwman's repaint to the 'WoP P51D_t' folder.

2) Copy 'tank_t.bmp' from one of the existing 'texture.x' folders. (I used the one from texture.6)

3) Paste the following as the next [Fltsim.x] entry in your Aircraft.cfg file (ie, mine is [Fltsim.7]) :

[fltsim.x]
title=P-51D 'Jumpin' Jacques' Long Range
sim=p51d_t
visual_damage=0
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=jumpinjacques
kb_checklists=P-51DT_check
kb_reference=
editable=0
atc_id=GSIJJ
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=
atc_heavy=0
ui_manufacturer=Wings of Power
ui_type=P-51D Mustang w/ Tanks
ui_variation='Jumpin' Jacques' Long Range
description="Jumpin Jacques" is a P-51D-20-NA model, built at North American’s Inglewood facility in California. Accepted by the USAAF on December 21 1944 as 44-72035, she was assigned to the 332nd fighter group in the Mediterranean Theatre of operations. The 332nd became very famous as the first all Afro American manned Group known as "The Tuskegee Airmen" although references to them at the time refer to them as "The Red Tails". She entered combat with the 15th Air force around March 1945 serving out the last few months of the war on escort and ground attack sweeps over Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia. She still carries the battle scars to this day, with bullet repairs in several places on the fuselage. After the war, she was repatriated to the US and served with several ANG units. She was released from active duty in 1953 and in 1956 sold to Whitman Enterprises, CA, who registered her as N5411V.
She remained in the Us until 1981, when she was sold to Colombia. In 1989, she was bought by Jacques Bourret of Aero Retro, based in St.Rambert, France, with the registration F-AZMU. When looking for a colour scheme for the P-5, Jacques came upon the photo of a Mustang named "Jumpin’ Jacques" and could not resist adopting this as the new scheme. The original "Jumpin’ Jacques" was flown by Lt Jacques E Young of the 3rd Fighter Squadron, 3rd Air Commando Group, a unit that operated out of the Philippines.
At present, she is with the Hangar11 group of North Weald, UK, flying with the registration G-SIJJ. She has been repainted completely in early 2007, and it is this paintscheme that is depicted with this repaint.

** I copied the aircraft description from the Jan Kees Blom repaint to customize this for you, since you were specifically looking for a Jumpin' Jacques repaint.

A few minor changes to this Aircraft.cfg will also align the original Bouwman repaint as a P-51D-Combat variant like the others. Change the following lines (before 'description=...') in the Aircraft.cfg located in your WoP P51D folder to:

[fltsim.x]
title=P-51D 'Jumpin' Jacques'
sim=p51d
visual_damage=0
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=jumpinjacques
kb_checklists=P-51D_combat
kb_reference=
editable=0
atc_id=GSIJJ
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=
atc_heavy=0
ui_manufacturer=Wings of Power
ui_type=P-51D Mustang - Combat
ui_variation='Jumpin' Jacques'

I played around with some RAAF and RCAF repaints, no luck. The bottom line is that any WoP P-51 repaint file will have to have these two textures to work with the P-51D/H pack: sw_p51d_1_t.bmp and sw_p51d_2_t.bmp. See this thread for a deeper explanation.

Unfortunately, those two files aren't required to repaint the Wings of Power 2/WWII Fighters version. Some repainters may have continued to offer dual-compatibility files for a short time, but it looks like providing the two additional files meant extra work and the practice died out. (RCAF Mustang IV KH680 by Markus Hellwig at AVSIM is incompatible with your version, but it does include the "sw_p51d_..." textures for 'Snooks/The Flying Undertaker' if you wish to have that repaint but can't find it otherwise.)
