Pitot Heat Failure

Post by Al FR-153 »

Okay, what am I missing? Performed pre-flight with battery and pitot heat ON but the pitot tube was cold. Since it is a brisk morning, I cranked the engine to allow it to warm up (pitot heat still on) then shut her down and did another walk-around to the pitot tube and she is still cold. Checked all breakers (good) and took her to the FBO shop where the mech-in-nick wrote it off as a 'loose nut behind the yoke'. Checked the breakers yet again (good) and did yet a third check of the pitot tube (cold). No bugs, no paint from paint shop clogging intake, no wires hanging down, no smell of burned wires, switch seems to be working okay. What am I missing?

For info: FSX-A, 25 hrs logged in type, ambient air temp 58 F at time of pre-flight.

Hello,

was it a brand new flight or a saved flight?

If you encounter it again try a new flight reload just in case the saved flight (or existing flight) has a load issue.

thanks,

Hi Lewis,

It was a new flight from a saved parking location. I tried to reload the flight again from the same parking spot and had the same results. Shutting down FSX and starting it back up resolved the issue, but I had not seen a failure like that previously. I did go into the FSX "Failures" area and there was nothing there either. Having had other failures (popped circuit breakers, faulty instruments, etc.) I just figured you were up to your old tricks again....... I still remember having to put the Hershey Bar down in a corn field one late evening because of an oil leak/fire. The pitot tube heater failure is interesting though. Apparently there isn't a circuit breaker for that in the RL bird. Something to put into your bag of tricks for the next bird.

Thanks for the feedback though.

Please let us know if it crops up for you again, I still think it was probably a flight load issue if a restart of sim corrected it for you. Ive not been able too and Nick cant yet replicate the issue.
