cruise rpm below 2300

Post by awash2002 »

Is there any danger running the prop at 2100 or 2200 rpm?

In principle, you'd want to select the RPM as a function of true airspeed to best optimize propeller efficiency. Every propeller has its optimum advance ratio where it works most efficiently. In one document by David F. Rogers [pdf] a rule of thumb was suggested, incidentally for Bonanza, of having cruise RPM of approximately 14.5 times the knots TAS. For instance, targeting for 165 knots, 2400 RPM would be a ballpark optimum.
