AFK - Pause On: Emergency

Post by Jim Upton »

While flying the Bonanza "V-Tail", I enabled pausing on emergencies.
After doing this, 8 seconds later, the simulator pauses.
But, I have no idea what the emergency is. To me, everything seems fine. ===

How do I determine what the emergency is?
Is the reason for the emergency logged somewhere where I find it?

Here is my current situation when this happens:

Altitude: 10,000 feet. (altimeter is correct)
Speed: 130 Knots (in green)
Manifold Pressure: 20.5 (in the green)
Tach: 2280 (in the green)
Fuel flow: 12 GPH
Flaps: Up
Pitot Heat: On
Prop - DeIce: On (tried off too)
Windows and Doors: closed
Autopilot: On (holding altitude and heading)
Cabin temperature is: Nice and steady.
Fuel Pump: Off (tried On too)
Crosswind: 9 MPH.
The left and right tanks 30/27 gallons of fuel, and I have enough fuel for the trip.
Wing tips are both empty, and they are turned off.
EGT: 732 C.
Cyl and oil temps are in middle of green. (cyl is 171 C and oil is 77 C
Oil Pressure: 52 PSI (green)
AMP: 0 ALT switch is on.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

The item that is triggering the emergency pause is probably something that is viewable in the Maintenance Hanger pop-up.

If it is and you don't want to do a mid-air repair, then you would have to disable the AFK Emergency pause until you get back on the ground.

I'm still having this problem after the last update also. I have a few items in the hangar that are yellow which I don't believe should be considered an emergency, but I've always had the almost immediate pause.

I (still!) have my sim PC in pieces so I can't test but could it be that the empty tip tanks trigger this?

Try fixing items in the hanger one at a time and see it if changes anything.

Low power in flight, low fuel, or low "time to ground" time will trigger an emergency. The other is in the maintenance hangar, you may have a CHECK ENGINE flag (what Forest said).

Thinking about this, if it is the Check Engine (open the maintenance hangar and do an inspection), this is sort of a spoiler. Let me know if you find it's any of the above items.

For me it will happen regardless of fuel level and I've only tried to use it while in cruise and autopilot set, so it shouldn't be a power or descent related trigger either. I'm assuming it's engine related but is a little more sensitive than expected. As I mentioned previously I had a few items that were yellow; I've been flying around remote Alaska and intentionally haven't inspected in the hangar recently. I did today and I now have a bit more going on than before, but still nothing I would consider an emergency worthy of a pause. I should also add that I've never allowed the oil level to fall under 8 quarts and oil is changed as necessary. AFK hasn't worked for me since the beginning - I started with a used plane and repaired everything before starting a cross country trip, and I've always had the unexpected pause on emergency regardless of hangar state. This is my hangar state as of today.

If this turns out to be yellow items in the maintenance hangar, just thinking out loud here, I think it makes sense that AFK would only trigger if a NEW emergency happens. IOW, if your #1 cylinder is bad and you hit the AFK, it should not consider that cylinder being bad to be an emergency. I'll bring this up with Rob and see how easy it would be for us to make this change.

I found these responses helpful and got my original question answered. Thanks.

I was flying again this morning with AFK/Emergency pause on, and the the simulator was pausing again.
When I went to the Hanger and looked at the engine, the Starter was yellow.
After clicking on the Starter and having it turn green, the simulator no longer paused.
So evidently the bad starter was the issue.

Good find! A yellow starter definitely shouldn't be considered an in flight emergency. I'm sure my yellow items in the hangar are the cause of my pauses also.

Hm weird. A broken or worn starter motor isn’t really an emergency in my opinion. Maybe this could be changed that the AFK only gets triggered when there is an actual emergency?
