I don't use ATC because not learned yet to use it. Learned from Trev, to keep it simple, take the height you need to descend, remove the 3 zeros from the end (example: 20,000ft becomes 20), multiply that by 3 = 60nm. Now add 10nm for spare, gives a total of 70nm from the airport from 20,000ft. Then do the descent at about 180 knots.
This is what I do with Connie it works nicely.
