Kneeboard check list

Post Paughco »

Guys: I really like the checklists on my C-47. I wish we had something like that for the Connie. I really hate it when we're climbing out and I check the outside view and notice that I still have takeoff flaps, or maybe I haven't retracted the landing lights. Very unprofessional. I'm working on this little project...

First, I found the files C47_check.htm and C47_ref.htm in my Douglas_C-47_V3.12_Beta folder. I copied them into the WoS_L049 folder, and renamed them L-049_check.htm and L-049_ref.htm. I edited a couple lines in the Connie's aircraft.cfg file:

[fltsim.0]
title=Lockheed Constellation L049, TWA
sim=L049
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=TWA
kb_checklists=L049_check
kb_reference=L049_ref

description=
ui_manufacturer=A2A Lockheed
ui_type=L-049 "Constellation"
ui_variation=TWA
ui_typerole="Four Engine Prop"
ui_createdby="A2A Simulations Inc."
atc_parking_code=TVA
atc_heavy=1
atc_id_enable=1
atc_id=NC86517
atc_airline=TWA
atc_flight_number=
prop_anim_ratio=0.9
atc_id_color=0x00000000
visual_damage=0
atc_id_font=Verdana,-11,1,600,0

Hmm. Looks like I'll have to do that for all the various paint jobs. Oh well, so far I've only been flying the TWA version.

Now the work begins. I've been using my text editor to modify the htm document, converting it from a DC-3 checklist to a checklist for flying an A2A Connie. I've got the checklist about halfway done, then will get on with the reference list, which will have all the airspeeds. I wish I could say it was already done, but I have two projects that have priority right now: finishing an air permit application for modifications to a flare at a landfill, and fitting a set of Clearwater Erica lights on my S1000XR.

Oh yeah. It works! I can see my half finished checklist on the kneeboard in the Connie!

OK, I've got the checklist done. It was done in text editor, but looks pretty good when you just double click in it and it opens in your web browser. I just loaded the Connie in P3D, selected Vehicle, Kneeboard, Checklist, and it actually works. Here it is:

------------------------------------------end checklist----------------------------------------

First, create a new text document on your desktop. Then copy and paste the checklist text into that text document. Then save it as L049_checklist.htm (you need to select "all files" in the file type window in order to get the .htm file extension). Then copy it into the WoS_L049 folder as described earlier.

As stated earlier, this checklist was created from the Checklist for my Douglas_C-47_V3.12_Beta. Not sure what those first two comments lines are all about, but I didn't take them out. Also, see the note about the ASI indicating in mph even though labeled for knots. I'm pretty sure this is what is happening, and this seems to be the best explanation for the apparent discrepancy between Vspeeds in the A2A Manual and C-96 manual and the use of the four dots on the ASI for flap and gear speeds. See the discussion on https://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewto ... 33&t=57365.

I am sure there are glitches in this checklist, so if somebody points them out, I'll change them on my checklist. Also, I'm pretty lazy, so I let the FE do his job, and I take all the glory for our perfect flights (I wish!). Also, I fly in today's weather, using today's nav aids.

OK. More coffee needed. Think I'll fire up Skyvector and see where I want to take about 36 trusting souls today...

PS: Maybe this is totally useless. Maybe not. I now have a somewhat better mental image of the checklist for the A2A Connie, so it hasn't been a complete waste of time.

Did you ever complete the Connie's reference document?

As stated previously, create a new text document on your desktop. Then copy and paste the above checklist text into that text document. Then save it as L049_checklist.htm (you need to select "all files" in the file type window in order to get the .htm file extension). Then copy it into the WoS_L049 folder. Then add a line to the aircraft.cfg, as shown below:

[fltsim.0]
title=A2A Lockheed Constellation L-049 TWA
sim=L049
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=TWA
kb_checklists=L049_check
reference=
description=
ui_manufacturer=Lockheed
ui_type=L-049 Constellation
ui_variation=TWA
ui_typerole="Four Engine Prop"
ui_createdby="A2A Simulations Inc."
atc_parking_code=TVA
atc_heavy=1
atc_id_enable=1
atc_id=NC86517
atc_airline=TWA
atc_flight_number=
prop_anim_ratio=0.9
atc_id_color=0x00000000
visual_damage=0
atc_id_font=Verdana,-11,1,600,0

You can then access this checklist in P3D (or FSX) from the menu by selecting "Vehicle, Kneeboard, Checklist." I typically open it at the beginning of a flight and move it down to the lower left of the screen, where all I can see is the top bar. Then, before I begin the next stage of a flight, I move it up and go through the checklist.

Thank you very much Paughco!
Your work inspired me a lot so I did the same for the B17, the B 377 and even the PMDG DC6(only for the runup which is pretty exhaustive). I made some "changes" according to my needs and based on my life experience as flight engineer. Because I'm totally ignorant and lazy to learn the htm "language", I used your work as a base structure. I hope you're not too angry about that :? . Anyway that is very helpful to me and again thank you so much :D !
Best regards
Pat
