No engine smoke effects

Using the Texan for quite while now, I recently updated to the last version (must have missed the last update somehow on release) and the changelog stated, fixed startup smoke. However, I never had, and still not have, any smoke effects from the engine. Not on engine start or when backfiring. Had no issues with the engine so far, so I can't tell if there are any effects due to oil burning for example..
The 'airshow smoke' works perfectly though.
Using Win7 64 FSX SP2 on DX10 with fixer.

Did you check in the outside view while starting the engine? I don't notice them from the virtual cockpit either but it doesn't really bother me.

Edit: I just did a flight and watched for smoke effect from the VC and if I look to the right where the exhaust is I can seen the smoke on startup from the cockpit.
