F1 GTN750 in T-6

Post by freded »

Using the Flight1 GTN Config Tool, I am unable to install the F1 GTN750 in the T-6 Texan, in PD v.3.2. The GTN650 installs OK; but when I try to install the '750, the Config Tool gives me an error message: "This is a custom configured Flight 1 GTN aircraft! WE strongly recommend that you do not change the GTN display/position settings as this could cause undesirable effects. The Flight1 GTN Config Tool should be used to change the specific unit options."

Going ahead and trying to install the '750, shows the unit on the image of the screen but selecting Enter does not actually install the '750!

The Config Tool works for both GTN units on other A2A aircraft, s why not on the T-6?
Regards,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Someone who knows far more about this than I do will probably be able to give you a better answer but looking at the aircraft configuration tool in the A2A folder within the sim, which allows you to select the compatible 3rd party GPS systems, the GTN750 is not listed and I suspect that is because you couldn't physically fit in within the cockpit. The GTN650 is listed because there is space.

I was just this minute considering whether to buy the 650 because I have tried to do the same thing as you :)

Hello,

yes we use our own aircraft config tools for selecting things like the GPS integration into the aircraft.

The T-6 supports the 650 and a few others.

thanks,

Thanks for your replies, guys!

I've been playing with the T-6's Panel.cfg file (a bad habit of mine :) ) and have finally come up with a way to include the GTN750 in the 2D cockpit view. I can also bring the '750 up in the VC by using Shift-9/[Window08] (which position is not used otherwise).

Here is this modified Panel.cfg:-

I'd welcome any comments. And, as far as I'm concerned, anyone is free to use or modify this Panel.cfg file for their own purposes. I only ask that, if they do, they post the result on this site, a I'm sure it can be improved upon. :)
Regards,

Mark

Oh, I should add that anyone wanting to try my modified panel.cfg should of course make a backup of the original file - preferably in a separate folder e.g. 'Backups'. Just in case you have any problems with the modifications and need to revert to the original!

Mark
