Airspeed Indicator

Lost my airspeed today in the At6, and it was dead on takeoff. Had pitot heat on during taxi out which was about 6 minutes at least. Pitot cover was off. Looked for a breaker problem, none for Pitot heat. I had AS 16 for weather and temp was -2C and dewpoint -6c. Decided to keep flying and use pitch to guess speed. Then I decided after about 15 minutes to go into AS 16 and use static weather and set temp at 21 C. Went back in VC and airspeed is now working normally. I guess Pitot heater needs to be replaced at some point in time.

Hey guys,

any further findings with that?

I had the same issue also using AS16 and dead airspeed indicator. But no further tested it yet.

Thanks in advance,
Zacke

Never had that problem again and I use AS16 all the time and have flown in Canada in the winter.

Today I had a comparable issue with the Spitfire. See here: viewtopic.php?p=531464#p531464

From memory there is an issue in which AS wont clear after heat. To avoid the issue, make sure you are proactive with heating, and as with real life not all icing can be cleared so always be pro-active and not reactive.

Got that again today. Took out the T6 and while climbing to 12k feet - bang! While flying through cloud level the ASI went to about 60 to 80 mph and stayed there regardless of using pitot heat.

No big thing because I know how my baby behaves on approach and landing even without having a working ASI (backup via GPS for gear and flaps speed). But it's really annoying and a bit weird it comes up so sudden and irreversible.

Anyway. You really have to be quite proactive with the pitot heat here.
