"The Purple Fox"

Post by Bomber_12th »

Here is a repaint I've just finished of another Texan/Harvard I grew up seeing a lot of locally. Based at the grass airfield in Spooner, Wisconsin, the owner Dave Schmitz has flown/displayed the aircraft a lot around the St. Paul/Minneapolis area over the past 22 years, including spending many hours flying formation with the T-6 Thunder formation group. Oddly enough, while in the process of making this repaint, the aircraft has now come up for sale.

The aircraft that this repaint depicts is in-fact a Canadian Car & Foundry built Harvard Mk.IV CCF4-237 (thus falls under the "Experimental" category in the US). It originally served in the RCAF as #20446 from 1952 till 1965. After being sold surplus, the aircraft was left parked in a Minnesota field for over 20 years before it was purchased by Dave Schmitz in 1987 (same year I was born). Following a 6.5-year restoration, the aircraft flew again in 1994, and has since logged nearly 1300 accident-free flight hours over the past 22 years. The name of the aircraft, and much of the markings, are in recognition of Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron HMM-364 (today VMM-364), "The Purple Foxes", which the owner of the aircraft originally served with during Vietnam.

I have just finished uploading the repaint to Avsim, Flightsim, and Sim-Outhouse (when ready, the file name is jt_a2a_at6_n7519u.zip).

Another stunning repaint John! Though I have to say the title raises certain expectations on the color

Cracking stuff, always found those schemes more striking than the bright yellow ones tbh. 8)

That's fantastic work. Will be grabbing it. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks to all repainters that do a wonderful job with the A2A airframes and giving zero repaint talent people like myself plenty of great liveries and internal paints to choose from.

Thank you all for the replies, I appreciate it! Having kept a close eye on all of the repaints that have been released for the T-6 so-far, I thought this one was quite "different" too from the rest/makes for a change. There are several Texans flying in the US with similar paint schemes to this one. Unfortunately just such an example just crashed over the weekend, but both occupants fortunately made it out alive: http://krcgtv.com/news/local/cole-count ... -condition

BTW, if you're able to read the patch on the rudder, I'm sorry the language is perhaps a little PG/PG-13, but it is the motto of "The Purple Foxes" and is presented just as it is on the real aircraft/real patch.
