AT-6G N29931 "Popeye" and SNJ-4 N7090C

Post by Bomber_12th »

I have finally uploaded this repaint to Avsim, Flightsim, and Sim-Outhouse (file name jt_a2a_at6_n29931.zip). For the meantime, you can also download it here: https://www.wetransfer.com/downloads/ea ... 152/18c2ce

This repaint depicts the AT-6G 49-3449, registered N29931, owned by Bruce Olson and based at the Flying Cloud airport in Eden Prairie, MN (just outside Minneapolis). This is yet another AT-6G that served for most of its life in the Spanish AF (from the late 1950's to the early 1980's). Bruce Olson has owned T-6's since 1999, and he purchased this one in 2011 (it has been flying in these markings, of a 1950's era SNJ, since 1997). Olson flies this aircraft just about every week, from April to fall, averaging about 140 flying hours a year - as a member of the T-6 Thunder North American Flight Team (consisting of 14 T-6's and 25 pilots, around the St. Paul/Minneapolis area), most of that time is spent flying in formation. Other T-6's that are part of the T-6 Thunder group include the AT-6D N85696 owned by Paul Ehlen (one of the previous repaints I've done), which also is based at Flying Cloud airport, and the SNJ-4 N7083C owned by Scott Romuld (one of the default product paint schemes), which is based in Lake Elmo, MN (on the other side of Minneapolis/St. Paul). All of these aircraft (and more (to come)) fly together quite often.

I hope you like the repaint! (Note that the wingtip light fairings are meant to be silver, as they are on the real aircraft.)

Here is another local bird that I have finished and uploaded as well (Avsim, Flightsim, and Sim-Outhouse - when available, the file name is jt_a2a_at6_n7090c.zip).

This one is also based at Flying Cloud airport, just outside Minneapolis, and is also part of the T-6 Thunder team. The aircraft, an SNJ-4, is owned by John Bormes, and this is one of the T-6's that has been a real staple at airshows and flying events around the Twin Cities for most of my life - I've always really liked the paint scheme on it. This particular aircraft, SNJ-4 BuNo.27754, has been on the US civil register as N7090C since the late 1950's, after being stricken from US Navy inventory. The current markings are a modified continuation from its late 1970's/early 80's paint scheme as a post-WWII NAS Corry based SNJ (hence the green stripes) - the number "370" on the cowl comes from the aircraft's NAA construction number 88-13370.
