Since the South African air force used these beautiful harvards until 1995,
Is anyone up to doing a paint?
Please?

The story of 309:
309 was restored to flying condition from 1996 to 2000, after she sat in a danish museum for many years. 309 was one of the few few Harvards to escape the scrapyard as she was used in the training of RDAF mechanics. RDAF stopped using the Harvard in 1959 where some of them were sold for 2000DKK, one of them, 306 was used at a playground before being rescued in 1979 and restoration begun in 1994. 306 is now on static display at the Danish Vintage Aircraft Collection in Stauning(EKVJ) just 40km north of where I live. The RDAF took notice of the restoration of 306 and offered 309 to the group for them to restore it to flying condition in which they started to do in 1996. In 2000 309 completed the first flight since 1959. Pilot Arne Moesgaard was very happy with the aircraft, all systems functional. Arne Moesgaard and 309 flew many displays during the following years.
Harvard 309's last flight.
Every 2nd year the RDAF host an airshow on one of the Air Force Bases in Jutland, in 2005 the Danish Airshow was to be held at Karup AB(EKKA). 309 was scheduled to fly in formation with a Norwegian Harvard. During a practise flight the day before the Airshow, 309 stalled and crashed just after take off, killing both the pilot Arne Moesgaard and his passenger Seniorsergent(Warrant Officer) Ib Hyttel Jensen.
Despite the fatal crash the RDAF chose to go ahead with the airshow, as family and friends of both Mr. Moesgaard and Mr. Jensen wanted the airshow to go on.
I saw 309 several times at airshow and it was always a pleasure to hear the unique sound from the prop as she flew past during her display.
I hope one of you have the time to do this.
Thank you.

Woohoo Crazac! Great that you threw your hat in the ring! If I still had the ol' bird I take your for a ride in exchange, but sadly I don't.
We flew from Palomar, the folks that bought the aircraft flew it from Montgomery.
But they sold it to a guy in Delaware that wanted it delivered to a field behind his barn where he intended to restore it.
Dumbass pilot tried, even after his boss specifically told him not to. This was the result:
So unfortunately it's not around here. But I have a lots and lots of pictures.

Two votes for this old girl. I had the pleasure of giving her a polish and brush up when she was with OFMC Although the tail number is completely false.. it doesn't matter as the aircraft is very realliljim121 wrote:Rolling out the UK T-6's, we have the finest unique one from North Weald, England ! Oh boy. That's not how you want to see a T-6. I hope the pilot got out ok though!? After all the plane can be replaced!

OOO man, booo! Too bad. I will most definitely immortalize this one! As soon as I can get the paint kit to dl.Tailspin45 wrote:Woohoo Crazac! Great that you threw your hat in the ring! If I still had the ol' bird I take your for a ride in exchange, but sadly I don't.

Ugh, man, such a shame. Thanks for the offer. I would have been over there today for the ride and pictures. A wet, chilly and overcast morning would just add to the mystique. At least now I have a story of that time I almost could.
Speaking of pictures, do you know what WeTransfer.com is? Can you PM me on how to see some more of the details you want? In the mean time, I'll googlie goo the tail number. [EDIT] duh, nevermind. I see your flicker link.
Yea. Hopefully, he made it out ok. ...and learned a thing or three.Piper_EEWL wrote:Oh boy. That's not how you want to see a T-6. I hope the pilot got out ok though!? After all the plane can be replaced!

Re: The repaint request thread
No injury, except to his pride. His downfall was that he always made wheel landings. On a soft, cultivated field, heavy on the brakes because the distance available was short, it didn't work out so well.
Contrary to what I've read here and in the A2A manual, the SNJ has no problem at all doing 3-pointers. And in anything except a roaring cross-wind that is what I advocate and that's what I teach.
You can read more on my views of that topic at http://tailspinstales.blogspot.com/2009 ... agger.html.
A bit further off topic, but some of the best flying writing I ever enjoyed, especially about flying the T-6, is Jeffery Wellum's First Light. As good as Richard Bach's Stranger To The Ground about flying an F-86D, and Ernest Gann's Fate Is The Hunter and DC-3s.

The yellow D-FRCP is now flying with a new paint, would be fantastic to have this one with Accusim.
