replacing chart (shift-5) with sextant

Post by Zacke »

Hey guys,

I intend to replace the shift-5-chart with Dave Bitzer's sextant. I assume the mentioned chart is really just a 2D-window or does it have any system relevance and I should not change that?

Thanks in advance,
Zacke

Hi Zacke,

It shouldn't do any harm if you wish to edit the panel.cfg to show a different 2-D gauge with the Shift 5 combo.

However, fitting an astrodome to the Comanche may take a little more work.

And a dome absolutely would destroy Comanches beautiful streamlines...

Serious: I'm looking forward to do a rtw tour without using modern navigation like GPS or so.

Anyway curios: If one's using a built in GPS within the Comanche and the HSI shows GPS track following I assume you still have to compensate gyro drift from time to time. Or is there then an integrated compensation via GPS?

Yep, there's no automatic correction for gyro drift in the Comanche. As you say, you'll need to periodically correct the HSI compass card whether you're following magenta lines or using ground-based navaids.
