Rudder Doesn't Move Front Wheel

Post by BonanzaDude »

I recently downloaded the newest version of the Comanche and installed it. I cannot get my rudder pedals to turn the front wheel. The rudder moves but that is it. The differential braking doesn't even seem to want to steer the plane.

All controls in P3D are turned off and I use FSUIPC for all axis and button controls. I have not adjusted any of the settings in A2A.

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

Is this just since installing with the new installer? Also, please can you let us know exactly which version of Prepar3D v4 you're using.

Thanks,
Nick

It didn’t work on the old version and the recently downloaded one that I installed today. I am using Prepar3D v4.3.

Hmm - that's a strange one John. The nose wheel steering with the Comanche should be effective at low speeds whether-or-not you use FSUIPC. (I currently use FSUIPC5.132 with no problems.)

Just to clarify, when you look in the external view, is the nose wheel moving left and right but not steering the aircraft effectively, or is the wheel visually locked in the centred position irrespective of your rudder inputs?

Thanks,
Nick

I have the same problem.
When I look at the wheel, it is moving but the a/c does not follow the wheel. I tried with the brakes, no success.

Hi Volker,

Are you using the new Comanche installer for Prepar3D v4? (If so, it should show version 18.4.22.0 in the Windows "apps & features" or "uninstall or change a program" window?)

Thanks,
Nick

Hello,

Please turn your controls on in the sun for us to be able to use them. If you turn them off it's all good for FSUIPC but means they are turned off for any application trying to use them in the sim.

Thanks,
Lewis

It started working this morning. I didn't change anything.

Lewis, I have always turned off axis controls for every plane since FSX when using FSUIPC. I am able to adjust sensitivity better with FSUIPC.

To answer your question Nick, the nosewheel was turning with rudder inputs. The plane kept going straight like the nosewheel was skidding.

It's all better now. And I even tried rebooting a couple times yesterday.

Okay, thanks John.

I suspect there may have been something leftover from the previous Comanche installation on your system, so I was going to recommend uninstalling using the new installer then manually removing any leftover stuff before reinstalling.

However, sounds like you're back in business! :)

Yeah I was getting the uninstall.log error and needed the fix you had yesterday.

Several reboots later and the rudder still wasn't working. But for whatever reason boom it worked today.

Hi Nick/Lewis,
I too am having problems steering the Comanche. I left my copy alone for a while and when I came to starting it up again found that although the front wheel moved the aircraft didn't. I have just downloaded it again from my account (losing a life in the process) but there is no change. I am using P3DV4.0 so I am thinking that this may be a installer problem that you've been talking about? If so please be aware that I am not that computer savvy so your explanation needs to be down at my level.
Many thanks
Rob

Hi Rob,

Did you (re)download from your account on the new A2A store or the old one? It may be worth checking you have the new version of the P3Dv4 installer. If so, it will show version 18.4.22.0 in the Windows "apps & features" or "uninstall or change a program" window.

If you already have the latest installer, it's likely that there are some leftover bit 'n' pieces from the old installer which are causing this issue. The solution in this case would be to uninstall, make sure any leftover files in "Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\A2A\" are removed and then reinstall with the new installer.

There's a bit more info on the 'clean reinstall' process here.

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick,
It was the old one. Can you tell me where I look to see if I have the new installer 18.4.22.0. I've looked around my C:/ drive and other places for the files you mention, 'apps & features' or 'install or change programs', but I'm not even warm.
Thanks
Rob
