Can you fly above 10000 commanche 250

Post by RDG_9794 »

Everytime I fly above FL100 my pilot passes out but the ceiling is higher than that for this plane. I know the cabin isn't pressurerized but why have that ceiling if you cant fly that high. Commanche 250

PS: I am pretty much a NOOB and don't understand this.

Realistically, the ceiling is dictated by the pilots ability to breath. IRL you can take a bottle of oxygen and a breather mask to avoid hypoxia if you intend on going over 10000ft. Most GA pilots would stay below though. More modern GA planes do have oxygen systems built in but very few are pressurised - in fact I only know of one which is the Lancair Legacy.

Does that happen in the 182 as well? Unless they changed the rules, it's perfectly legal to fly up to 12.5
without oxygen, and up to 14 for a limited amount of time, but no higher. I will have to give that a try, I didn't know there was a pilot-pass-out feature!

Also, recall that flying at or close to the aircraft's ceiling is seldom the most practical way to operate such an aircraft. For most operations, it is simply a brochure figure.

I fly a lot in the western US and Canada with the Comanche and T-6. The mountains occasional require flying above 10,000 feet. I have flown both as high as 12.5 without problems and an currently in a flight with the T-6 at 13.5 with no problem. What I typically do is chart a course in the flight planner that keeps excursions above FL 10.0 to a minimum. Makes the red line a bit zig-zaggy. There is some altitude at which the sim will render the pilot unconscious but I don't want to find out what it is.

My brother owned a Comanche 250 and got it up to FL 18.0 with a portable oxygen bottle.
Ryzen 7 5800X3D liquid cooled, OC to 4.5 ghz, Radeon XFX 6900XT Black edition, 2 tb M2 drive, 32 gb ddr4 ram, Asus Hero Crosshair VIII mother board, and some other stuff I forget exactly what.
