I almost always put the control lock on when I shut down the 182. However I notice that when I return to the cockpit the control lock is not in at first. Then when I am verifying controls free and independent suddenly the control lock appears and engages.

Re: Control lock
Yes the yoke must be in line with the control locking pin in order for control lock to be engaged. Hence whilst its 'armed' in the sim and as soon as you move your yoke to the required position the control lock can fit through the correct holes.

Re: Control lock
Yes if the control lock is armed then the pin will drop into place as soon as the yoke moves to line the holes up.

Re: Control lock
However the lock should pop into place automatically when clicking cold and dark button, it doesn't now.
Re: Control lock
the issue i think everybody is having (including myself) is that you go fly, land, park and secure the airplane which includes installing the control lock. then the next time you come back to the airplane to fly, the control lock is not installed as you left it. then the first time you push the control wheel forward, the control lock installs itself.

That's exactly the problem !
