Excessive engine smoke

Post by specialist »

The Cherokee flys great, no problem going through checklist from start to finish from cold and dark to shut down, However, it's constantly shooting out a lot of smoke from the engine from the time I start to the time I shut down, why? If the real Cherokee I normally fly did that, I would be freaking out and blaming the maintenance people. :?

Did you check the maintenance hangar?

Sure did, even made sure to overhaul the whole aircraft, just in case, and still get that heavy smoke.

What do you mean if I have smoke turned on? Is there an option on this aircraft to turn smoke on or off? It's not happening with any of my other aircrafts, whether payware or not. But if there is a switch particularly for this aircraft that turns the smoke off, I would like to know.

Maybe check if you are not hitting any buttons that can start any special effects like L for example, or others. These can be started this way regardless of their typical/intended way of showing

Plus check the update and realism settings (maybe automixture ?) just to be sure

It's not automixture, that box is not active on my realism settings, but I think you hit the nail on the head when it comes to smoke affect. Apparently on the keyboard control settings, the letter "I" is being used for smoke system on/off. The problem I'm having is that I use VoxATC, and when I fly VFR, it asks me to turn to a particular squawk number and hit the letter "I" to identify in order to receive traffic advisory. So when I was hitting the letter "I", it was activating the smoke system affect. Now, I haven't tried it yet, but I"m removing the letter "I" from the control settings, since I don't use the smoke system in FSX. Hopefully that will take care of the problem, and still allow me to use VoxATC as normal.

Yes, that would do the trick. I have "I" unmapped to enable the "smoke system" on my keyboard mappings.
