Strange Sounds on Landing

Post by Belynz »

Hey guys,

I'm not going to brown nose, but seriously I don't think I've flown anything within FSX that is quite so fluid as far as the FDE goes. Slick. Very Slick.

I'm running in to an issue that I can't seem to figure out. When I land (yeah, my landings aren't the "best"), as the wheels touch the ground I get this god awful screeching noise - sounds a bit like shattering glass or like something has REALLY gone wrong. I check the Maintenance hangar at the end of the flight and the worst that's happened is the fouled spark plugs.

Here is a video of what I'm talking about: http://youtu.be/5Wdv6vnCJWU

Is this something I'm doing wrong? I can only assume it's Accu-Sim's sounds, but I could be wrong.

Cheers,

Matt.

I don't get that sound at all. All I get are the normal Accu-feel tyre screeches. Maybe it's different without accu-feel installed?

Hello,

A couple of possibilities to check out;

1) It almost sounds like either Accu-feel isnt playing nice for you with the cherokee and doubling up the sounds IF you have it and its turned ON.

2) Brakes, are you brakes mapped so that they are not applied when foot is off, as it could be a landing with some brake pressure applied. Some hardware controllers require regular calibration because of an issue that means FSX always has a small percentage 15-20% brake pressure applied.

3) Have you tried this at a different airport, maybe a default one just in case the scenery is playing a part

thanks,
Lewis

Hi Lewis, thanks for getting back to me.

I don't have Accu-feel installed, although It's on my Simmarket so maybe I should reinstall it?

Brakes have been checked. No issues as far as I can see.

I've tried 4 other airport, default/payware/freeware - still the same issue.

Thanks,

Matt.

Hey Matt do you have any sound mods installed that are similar to Accu-feel regarding sounds?

Thanks,
Lewis

Belynz,

Keep in mind, this is a very odd thing. First, let's be sure it's from Accu-Sim. Go into your Controls panel (SHIFT-3), and turn the sound completely off, then try your landing again.

If you get the sound still:
Download and run this utility:
http://a2asimulations.com/public/online ... Dr_A2A.exe

A little black window will appear with a blinking cursor. This will take about 60 seconds or more to complete. Once this is done, you will have a "Dr_A2A_Report" file next to the Dr_A2A.exe program. Email this to doctor[at]a2asimulations.com.

Let us know when you email this,
Scott.

Hey Scott,

Even with the sound turned off with the control panel the issue still happens so i've sent the file :)

Thanks.

Belynz,

OK, this is outside of Accu-Sim. And I am just guessing what in FSX could be causing this on this single system.

Open your sound.cfg file (in your aircraft's SOUND folder).

Look for:

[CENTER_TOUCHDOWN]
filename = null
flags = 0

[LEFT_TOUCHDOWN]
filename = null
flags = 0

[RIGHT_TOUCHDOWN]
filename = null
flags = 0

Change to:

[CENTER_TOUCHDOWN]
filename = silence
flags = 0
maximum_volume = 0

[LEFT_TOUCHDOWN]
filename = silence
flags = 0
maximum_volume = 0

[RIGHT_TOUCHDOWN]
filename = silence
flags = 0
maximum_volume = 0

If this doesn't work, try just deleting all three entries.

Scott.

Have you got a heavy tweaked installation? Could be a tweak too far as many do and can cause issues. No we know the issue is with FSX I'd also like you to check any sound tweaks that might be applied to your sim.

Thanks,
Lewis

Hi Scott,

Changing the entries didn't work, but removing them did - so thank you.

Lewis, I have some NGX ground rumble mods installed, but nothing that should affect the core of FSX.

Thanks for the help, all good now 8)
