GPS tracking and gyro drift

Post by Zacke »

Hello guys,

I haven't installed the Cherokee yet but have the following question: With the (FSX) GPS installed (the integrated one) and the autopilot following the GPS route does the drift of the gyro compass influence the tracking? Or with other words: Is the gyro compass used while AP is GPS tracking or is it then only an interaction with AP and GPS and the gyro compass doesn't play a role?

With the A2A T6 there's that interaction between GPS, AP and GC - which isn't quite realistic but still discussed in the forums.

Thanks in advance,
Zacke

Installed the Cherokee now the AP and the GPS seem to work independently of the gyro compass. No reaction of the AP if one's manipulating the gyro compass while on GPS tracking.

That's right, tracking modes in this autopilot are nicely (=correctly) simulated in that sense they only depend on lateral 'needle deviation'. Regardless of the source, this is independent of the aircraft's (indicated) heading.
