high rpm readings

Post by awash2002 »

When I use the 172 at 6500 feet or 8500 feet I get very high rpm readings this is with the stock prop it got up to as high as 2500 rpm which the red line is 2400 rpm Is this normal?

In straight & level flight? Doesn't sound right.

Well, on that one I'd guess it is within reasonable limits.

You need to control the propeller RPM with the throttle to keep it going above red line. Don't allow it to go above red line. If in level flight full throttle results in exceeding maximum RPM, then full throttle is not available.
Yes, this is accurate for C172's depending on the version (pitch) of the propeller attached.
