C172 Trainer lean always to the left

Post by Titin »

Hi, everybody I´m new here. I bought the 172 Trainer for prepar3d v3 professional in October (2015) but this plane always tilts to the left and it doesn't make a difference if the copilot has 40 pounds more weight and the left tank is only half full. My HOTAS is a saitek rhino 55. With the others airplanes from Prepar3d this doesn´t happen.

Does anyone have an idea? please help

Kind regards

Sorry for my English I´m a Spanier guy:shock:

Titin,

Try getting the plane up to altitude, and put it into a dive. Then slowly pull the power back. Do you still find it turns to the left, or maybe it even turns to the right? If so, this is all about pfactor and torque. Most of the time, when the engine is pulling the plane, it's turning it to the left. We use very advanced techniques to capture and reproduce this behavior, which many simulations miss. So when you fly our airplanes, you become suddenly aware of something fundamental in airplanes that is missing in flight simulation.

Thanks Scott-A2A. You are right. Now I must flight more accurately  and always take a look of the instruments ;-)

Kind regards

This helped me enormously!
I know that it is a different plane but it works for both.

That's a nice video though I don't think it has to do with the above mentioned left turn tendency of the C172 when power is applied. In the Cessna you would usually leave the fuel selector on both unless you have an imbalance in fuel levels wouldn't you? In the Cherokee as we all know you can't do that because you have to choose between left or right. It does make a major difference though if the fuel levels are balanced or not. I'll agree with that

Sorry for posting to such an old thread, but this video helped me today as I was going crazy in EGLC RW09 with the Cessna 172 Trainer.
Takeof nearly impossible as the aircraft turned always to the right, finally left the runway, no matter what I did with rudder and pedals.
I checked the aileron an rudder trim by a shot FSUIPC LUA script, both were zero.

The mentioned videos explains the roll tendency of C172 and PA80 with different filled fuel tanks.
I had an imbalance in the fuel tanks as I thought to compensate the single pilot's weight by increasing the fuel level on the right side by some gallons :
No good idea - not only in the air but before takeoff too.

After I found this thread and the above link to the video, I tried takeof and landing one more time, now with equal fuel tanks - slight compensation necessary (I think for propeller and side wind) but in no moment, the aircraft wanted to leave the runway or became uncontrollable.

So to make a long story short:
Keep the fuel tanks equal - and thanks for the video link.

Fuel selector should be kept on BOTH all the time in c172.
