C172 GPS or NAV modes

Hi, I noticed that with the GPS unit on (I'm using GNS 530, Flight 1) the NAV/GPS switch at the top of the panel automatically switches to GPS. It cannot be activated to return to NAV. Is this correct, or am I doing something wrong? With the GPS unit off, the NAV mode works. Any advice, much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Brian,

When using the GNS 530, the CDI button on the bottom left of the GPS bezel is used to switch between GPS and VLOC (NAV) modes.
