If this is in the wrong place, my apologies. I have to vent my spleen.

I'm in the process of painting a Finnish C172, OH-CAN. Suffice to say that it has ruddy great black lettering on both sides PALOLENTO SAR. This lettering partly covers the door hinges, the AL on the port side and the NT on the starboard. I successfully did the AL and set about the other side. After countless retries (I didn't give up easily) it dawned on me that although two sets of hinges show in the paint kit only the port side accepts colour and doubles up for the starboard side. Now it looks dreadful! Bloody shame, it's such a nice paint kit otherwise.

I also discovered the aileron ends are served by just one section but I got over that. Nobody looks at aileron ends do they?

Peeved, Ron

EDIT: Couple of screens to show what I mean:

I think you mean OH-CAM.

OH-CAN is a nice one too btw.  (and you probably won't be venting any spleen stuff in the process).

Edit: btw the lettering looks fine Ron... just blame the wrench who installed hinges after the paint was done. :P

Never mind that ^*%$£$*& here comes Mongo!
Seriously though sometimes (Read every time) compromises are made for optimization, and making things fit as tightly together on as little textures as possible. Ill have the C172 artist Michal P have a ganders.

Random thoughts;
Whilst its nice to have all that 3d eye candy all the time that people seem to crave, these very people tend to also be the most vocal about things not running at 60fps all the time (This isn't aimed at you at all Ron just random thoughts after some fs forum reading). We take Optimisation (optimisation isn't a dirty word BlackAdder)very seriously and try to make everything run as smoothly as possible, mostly thanks to A2A's lead artist (The ever chatty ROB) for many years running an old conked out PIII or IV system, meaning we had to make them run well!

cheers,
Lewis

Good effort Lewis. :D I don't really think the painting of a hinge or aileron end would make that much difference to frames. :D
Why I got worked up was because I just spent an age hand drawing that font (It's not the USAF one unfortunately :( ) and I couldn't, for the life of me, understand that omission.
It doesn't matter any more, I'm over it. I'm like a 10p firework, a bit of a flare up...then it's all over. :D

You're right Rob, it's OH-CAM

No worries Ron.

Little optimizations, when making hundreds and thousands in a program quickly add up to quite a saving in performance

Michal P has gone to bed already as apparently working till midnight is 'not' ok on a regular basis (just cant get the staff these days!) He'll be along tomorrow though to have a ganders. Rob has already piped up to me to mention that this one might be fixable so theres hope yet for your Finnish paint.

thanks,
Lewis

Aw shucks Lewis. That'd be great if it is possible. :D

Thinking about it, what's the betting it'll never come up again?

Excuse me while I check Google translate.

EDIT: It would have been quicker to type "No problem, my pleasure" :D
