Phillips66 Aviation sponsors the A2A Accu-Sim C172 Trainer
Phillips66 Aviation is an official sponsor of the new Accu-Sim C172 Trainer aircraft in development by A2A Simulations Inc. Phillips66 Aviation creates more avgas than any other producer and also produced the first multi-grade aviation oil (X/C® 20W-50). A2A Simulations produces high-end flight simulations using their own proprietary Accu-Sim technology through Microsoft flight simulator products. Both Phillips66 and A2A Simulations have the shared interest in raising the awareness of proper aircraft care and the Accu-Sim C172 Trainer gives a deeper understanding through a hands-on experience of how to best manage the oil in your airplane.
“Oil degrades over time, especially with the wider tolerances in an air-cooled aircraft engine. Therefore it’s important to keep fresh oil in the engine as the acids in old oil do the most damage when the engine is not in use, and time counts even when the simulator is off. This means the Accu-Sim pilot will acquire the same good habits that aircraft owners learn through experience every day,†said Scott Gentile of A2A Simulations Inc.
“We simulate things like oil, viscosity, corrosion, contaminants, etc. because it is needed to give a proper aircraft owner’s experience. If you leave, for example, a thick single weight oil in your plane and try to start it on a cold morning, you will quickly learn to either use a multi-weight or plug in your engine heater the night before. The incredible thing with this new Accu-Sim C172 Trainer is you don’t even realize you are learning, because it’s just all fun. The Cessna 172 is a simple airplane to understand which makes the entire experience enjoyable. Much of what we’ve put into the new Accu-Sim C172 Trainer is a reflection of day to day experiences from aircraft owners, including our own people,†said Lewis Bloomfield of A2A Simulations Inc.

Aging affects in real time? Awesome! I have a feeling this product is going to change how a lot of us interact with our flight sim hobby.
Does having a sponsor mean we'll be getting the product cheaper? I kid!

This look pretty great. I think I'll hold of on my IVAO PP exam, until I can fly this thing!
I'll just quote my facebook comment too:

Haha that's pretty cool new take on the accusim "owning your aircraft". So it actually check how long ago your last flight was and tells the sim that "the oil has gotten this much worse since last time"?

I would also like to announce that the new accusim C172 is sponsored in part by, awesome.
Cheers!

We will still have the ability to turn off the damage in the event you do just want to jump in and fly away. Same with the CTRL-E for starting the engine. It throws fuel in, sets ignition, and winds the starter until the motor starts.Skyhawk54 wrote:Incredible...

Hey Scott,
Just curious, will the IO-360 for this 172 come in both 160hp derated and 180hp standard varieties?
Cheers

Looks like you guys got some other premium sponsors like champion spark plugs. Way to go! I cannot wait for this bird.
Re: Phillips66 Aviation sponsors the A2A Accu-Sim C172 Train
This is going to be great for new pilots that have never had the experience of owning an airplane, only flying the ones from their local clubs!
Re: Phillips66 Aviation sponsors the A2A Accu-Sim C172 Train
This is going to be absolutely amazing and will revolutionize flight simming. Outstanding work, A2A!

Lovely! This is getting more and more interesting by each peek to the features! Hope the development is progressing smoothly.
Out of curiosity, and for discussion, the manufacturer's recommendation for oil change interval, for what I'm aware, is 50 hours TIS or four months, whichever occurs first. Ref. 172R/S AMM Rev.20 (yes, probably not the latest, dated 1OCT2012), and Lycoming SB480E (pdf). The 25 hour interval applies to engines that use only pressure screen for their filtration. The reason I bring this up is that I'm just interested if I've missed some recommendation, and really if there is a real-life benefit for replacing the oil at reduced intervals. In the sim, at my utilization at least, the 50-hour/4-month interval is of course quite long, so shorter interval would suit me just fine so that I got to do stuff more.

Re: Phillips66 Aviation sponsors the A2A Accu-Sim C172 Train
Scott,
is there anything you can tell us about the price? the last accusimmed aircrafts where around 50$, will the C172 be similar or will it cost rather more as there's a lot more work in it? It might be interesting for us to plan our expenses during the next months as not everyone can come up with 100$ just like that..
Greets,
Marc

Very, very cool.
Just one thing - the right-hand most oil container thing says 25W-60 on the picture, but 20W-60 on the text above ...

On another forum this was posted:
"If they really want to do it right they should also simulate pulling and sending off oil samples for analysis at each oil change. Mobil's Signym lab does this in the real world and you get back acid levels, particulate ISO numbers, viscosity, water content, wear particle analysis, etc. Would be a good marketing tool for Mobil and teach how to use a good program to users who they seem to be trying to influence with this feature."
Is a internal feature of Accu-sim been considered as part of the MX notes? Just like how we can see the compression results of the test when we do an oil change we can get the results of the old oil?!
