S - the matter of exact historical placement etc in the HAA or whatever - I admire you guys greatly in this work, which doesn't have enough adrenaline kick for me.

I still have mixed feelings after what happened to the last one and the poor pilot who knew he was doomed-what a horrible way to go

T - yeah, the big black one, 65,000' into the stratosphere in jus over a minute over Cape Point, but uses 6 tonnes of gas thru two very big voomers. Also nothing more impressive that British roundels on a black machine-menacing.

From the days of when 'Great' was still in Britain, and her engineering, and before she "Waived the Rules". Magnificent machines.
Funny long-haired South African sign-off aero mechanic whom was interviewed? Must be highly qualified.
They musta got a flying licence after their troubles with the last one that went down, or changed the company.
Terrible that prang, some sort of hydraulic failure after one engine appeared to have some issue ( big smoke when starting) ...... and then the Martin B ejector seat failed. He had time to radio 'goodbye' to his wife and children, before he went in.

Funny a lot of SA fellows getting killed by ejector seats recently - ref - that SA born fellow in the Red Arrows a few weeks ago, who inadvertently ejected whilst on the ground.

I wanted to treat myself to a Lightning flight for my 50th 10yrs ago but the cost then was ZAR 130,000 ( 13,000GBP)
Just the gas today would be ZAR 90,000 ( 5,000 GBR) so must now be double to do this.
I spent a quarter and took my wife to Tanzania and the Congo for two weeks to look at gorillas.

Has the UK got any flying, or are they banned due to sound levels? ( they helava loud, I can tell you )

T - are there Brits flying here or mad Frenchies? There appear to be 'no-rules' - 3' above the grass in a banking turn?
Or Brit pilots enjoying the continental 'no-rules' scenario? Impressive, but looks dangerous.

Also lift off right at stalling - must be a small field?

Hi Hazzie,
If i recall this was taken many years ago in France.Looking at the aircraft alot of them were owned by OFMC and TFC then, quite a few have changed hands and markings now.
The rules have tightened up big time at air displays in the UK http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP403.PDF this is 2012 .

They do pilot training and Display authorisation at Duxford .

I believe [probably incorrectly] that over an airfield there isn't really a minimum height restriction, i think that maybe the attitudes have changed. There's alot of dead pilots and mangled lost airframes and huge costs associated with operating these planes that it had to change.
Have a look at this ,i asked the Steve Connor who took the footage for more info ,this is his answer.

"It was at Yverdon in France, we were using the airfield as a base for some air to air filming with the Breitling Fighters for "Airshow World" a show for the Discovery Channel. I wandered off for a while and noticed the canal next to the airfield with the Bridge across it, I joked with one of the Pilots (it may have been Cliff Spink) that it would make a great shot and after a brief discussion with Ray and the others they decided to go for it!

I was the lucky one on the bridge, the first three went through and then Lee Proudfoot in MH434 did the final run as you can see from the shot he timed it perfectly and the moment when he pulled up and flew overhead was even more impressive than the infamous Alain De Cadanet moment!"

Oh the Alain de Cadanet moment was also filmed by Steve Connor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEnOeITKZAA

Great flying ,the colours are a bit rich for my tastes though. :) Maybe i am too used to the toned down UK colours LOL.
Having said that Christmas eve it is warm and very sunny -- mad and seems so wrong but anything is better than the grey wet cold slippery slush we will get later on :(
