More terrain textures

Post by Pat_Pattle »

After playing with the AXA textures I wondered about another possibility for the terrain.

I took an image of Surrey from Google earth and used it to replace the field textures. This is just a test but I think it looks ok. I'll replace a few more images and see how it goes. The joint between tiles shows up rather too clearly at the moment and the forest raises are off.

What do you think?

Nice!

Mebbe a feathering of the edges of the textures to get rid of the seams?
But really I had to look for a bit before I found em ...

Looks good :D You will need to make the textures tilable to get rid of the seams. If you are a photoshop user the offset filter will do you right :!:

Looks like it might be a bit foggy for ops in certain parts or Britain.....

That looks very good, :D Great work!! 8)

It will be interesting to see how this ends up. If the tiles for France ever get separated out this could work very nicely

Do any of you BDG chaps know how Rowan used the landscap textures in the terrain. ie what goes where? I've identified the field textures (img0005,6,7,8,9,11,14,22&24) and in-game they get either compressed or expanded and/or are flipped. Also does anyone know how the boundaries around the textures are defined?

I'll look into this further as I think there are improvements to be made, although trying to understand the Rowan logic seems somewhat elusive at the moment!

Hi Pat Pattle :)
I've attempted too making a new terrain (in fact, redrawing textures) but, like you, I've got problems with boundaries around textures...So I've reworked Marcel Cellinsky's textures (see the screenshots post).
It seems that Marcel Cellinsky knows how are defined the boundaries around textures...maybe should you ask him? I try to find a link/adress to talk with him but I can't find one.....if someone knows where I can contact him....
BTW, great work Pat Pattle 8)

What you need is to read (skim, mostly, you don't need to chew through all of it) through this: http://www.airwarfare.com/Sims/GMX%20BO ... torial.zip

Then open this:
http://www3.telus.net/v1ncent/bob/F60textest.zip

and compare to this:

That should give you what you need to know.

Here is what the textures are meant to represent, you can or can not follow this landuse when building your textures. To line up showing no seam you will also need to make them tilable, or features match on all sides (example from my field textures and bottom)

Pat_Pattle, I encourage you to continue your efforts, your first screenshot looks FANTASTIC! And, quite honestly, if there's one thing that really bothers the heck out of me regarding this sim, it's that ugly, blocky terrain! I will be eagerly watching the progress here...and thank you! :)
