JU88 KG51_3rd staffel

Post by redband_151 »

These are markings that I have had for some time but never before had the ability to upload for people.
This is a Ju88 of KG 51 Edleweiss I st gruppe, 3rd staffle, force landed in Bexhil, Sussex on July 28, 1940. It has the usual Ist gruppe white bands around the engine cowlings, but curiously no colored spinner tips as used by the KG51 to indicate staffel. I did not Skin the aircraft , only the emblem, ID codes, exhaust stacks, re-made the radioman/gunners rear control panel from detailed cockpit plans that I have. I hope you all enjoy this.

Well done, Chris!

You count coup with the engine exhaust!
Knew I, only the village whereupon the elusive Mr. Exhaust lived.
You have tracked him down, and found the teepee wherein hees been hiding.
Indeed, the very blanket he hid under, ye have stripped away!
This scalp ye have taken, shall be tied to your lance,
so that others may know ye be a relentless tracker and killer
of elusive suspects and other creatures that try hide from your eagle eye.

I always did like like that Edelweiss emblem.

Great scheme! Shame we can't ship it by default with the next update, but that would be bad for Germany because of the swastika..

Nice addition ...hope you ( or someone) does more! I also hope that someone figures a better way to "light" these marvelously ( except for the 110) aircraft.... :)

I have been experimenting with the skinners pack and tries one for this Ju88. I think it looks quite nice but not too shiny.

SD, that looks good! Getting the intensity right is a tuff nut but I dont think you are too far off. i think what needs adjusting is the highlight size. The larger the number the smaller the highlight. I think for flat painted metal you will want to stay in the 25-50 range for size. You then break the highlight up with your specular map. Another sugggestion is to lower the ambient (sides out of the sun). I started a tutorial for some of this but it will take some time. One thing I did was to take a real world shot (try and find a B/W pic with some specularity showing), try and get the same lighting in game and then play with the shader settings in skinners mode. A reference will help. :D

SD,

Your lighting looks very nice. I really like the 2nd and 3rd pics. Really brings out the rivets and wear. The lighting on the spinners looks like it could be a little more diffuse though. This is very exciting seeing the lighting develope, and should bring the graphics to a whole new level. Nice work.

Very nice :).
I agree with Killdevil a value of 25-50 for the spec. exponent is a good one.
Hard to say about ambient, as the lighting comes roughly from the direction of the camera, IOW the faces where the ambient is especially important are mainly the back faces. But a lower ambbient might inded help.

BTW - I can't remember - do we have a completely unmarked Ju88 skin?
