Glaedelig Jul!

Post by heinkill »

Or as you folks say, Merry Christmas!

Here in Denmark we are having an unseasonably 'warm' winter, no frost, no snow and certainly not the ice storms hitting North America. The kids think it is really boring, but as the guy who usually shovels the snow I aint too upset...

In the Lutheran tradition the big gift giving night and dinner is Christmas eve, right now all the relatives are at church, while I knock back a schnapps or two with my agnostic Father in law.

Cheers all and have a safe and happy time,

Fred

Mele Kalikimaka!

It is 82 F with the usual sunny weather with scattered cumulus clouds and the normal 20 mph Trade Winds blowing thru my wide open house doors,
and no pesky bugs, where I now sit in my house. It is really a pleasant day.
Can't say that I miss the snowy cold White Christmases of my Montana youth or when I lived in northern Nevada, USA.

For Christmas Eve, I will visit my #2 daughter's in-laws, minus her US Army Sergeant husband whom is serving a 6 month tour in Afghanistan.

Hope that all the folks around here,
Have a Good New Year.

Frohe Weihnachten!

I wish you all some festive days without too much stress.

I am glad there is no snow over here, as right now I am still in the 6 month "probation time" of a new job and have two flats around 300-400 km apart and would have had to shovel snow at both of them ;).

Merry Xmas all! I'm back in Egypt for the hols :)
Found bullets Neolithic arrow heads and shark teeth in the desert
This place just kicks up history in the dust!
Wishing you all the best in 2014

Best wishes to all for a happy and healthy 2014. Have to admit all this discussion of unseasonably warm weather, 82 degrees F and finding arrowheads in the desert dust is making me question my choice of surroundings - I'm looking out the window at a bright and sunny minus 34 degrees C morning. Fortunately winds are light, so only minus 43 w/wind chill included. So much for my theory that climate change might be my friend...

Happy New year to everyone and as importantly a healthy one.
A friend of mine from Canada retired a few years ago and as he said when you are at work all day the weather over there isn't a issue more than normal BUT once you are around in it all day as retired it becomes a menace and i daresay a prison at times.
When the depression hit the USA a few years ago he bought a cheap place in Florida and now see 's out a few months a year over there in warmth and sun, keeps him sane :).
I guess the novelty of shovelling tons of snow can only be pleasurable for so long.
In the UK at the moment we are alternating between high winds, rain, flooding HAPPY 2014 :)

No kidding! IIRC, the magic is gone by about the age of ten...

ahem, on new years day I went with kids sledging on tea trays...down sand dunes!
Great fun until I missed my car keys
Had to get the spare set sent down from cairo. But on the upside while I was kicking my heels waiting I found a vertibrae from a whale evolutionary ancestor. Approximately 33 MYO! Not quite as big as bowling ball but too heavy to bring back to the UK. When I move back to Cairo it will serve as an excellent paper weight!

Wow, great stuff. ...Yes, one of the downsides of
sand sledding is you can't go back when it melts and
find your keys (and the kids' mittens) in the spring.
