Great Father's Day Present

Post by Baza »

Working in the garden this afternoon, when we were overflown by the BBMF - the Lanc, the Mk IIc Hurry, The Last of the Many, and the clipped-wing Mk XVIE Spitfire - twice! I hadn't seen either of the fighters before. Both my sons swore down they had arranged it as my Father's Day present - but then, they've both been known to tell porkies, from time to time.

Turns out the BBMF had been going to/returning from Cholmondeley (pronounced 'Chumley', don't-cha-know) Castle Pageant of Power, about 5-10 minutes flying time from Nantwich - it's always a thrill to see them, even if it wasn't arranged just for me!

Nice. I love moments like that. Was working in my garden in Toronto a few years back completely unaware there was an airshow due to happen down at Lake Ontario, until a P51D screamed right overhead on its ingress and egress. Got down to the Lake just in time to see a Lancaster escorted by a P51 and a Mosquito fly by. Priceless.

Jeez, heinkill, you do get around. I thought it was Denmark,
or wasn't it somewhere on the Pacific rim prior to that. I didn't
remember registering you'd lived in Toronto. Would have been
in the 90's I guess, last time a Mosquito was airborne (prior to
the one in New Zealand this year). I haven't seen a Mosquito fly
since I was about six, when they were retired from the RCAF
base at Comox.

94. I think it crashed soon after that, but I read it's flying again, or another that was rebuilt.

I also remember that as the year I got into hockey...but the Canucks lost.

Yep, I been around. Lived in New Guinea, Australia, Ireland, Canada, Vietnam, Denmark (twice) so far. It's a big life :)
