Tiger Moth Touring

Post by Charlie Alpha »

Hi Guys
Does anyone know of anyway to

1. Add different airports to the 'Parameters' option in the training missions so that you can start at airfields other than Debden, Duxford, Kenley and Biggin. I'd like to add them all!

or

2. Start from the last airfield you landed at. There appears to be no save option for the TM training options.

At the moment if I am 'touring' I have to land at one of the four listed airfields or pause the game. Pausing for long periods just causes the game to crash

Here are the Mission Editors.

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?lockbzr1dbv78vo

It has been years since I used one, and I do not know why there are two of them. A help file is included.
Other guys know more about this than I.
heinkill knows most about this I think.

Anyway, you can pick an existing Instant Action mission and edit it. Change airfield for example.

Yes, good questions CA. I'm afraid the answer is no right now.

I am also rusty on the battlefield editor Stickman put up and it's not that user friendly as I recall it (but not much). There are four default slots for each mission right now and there is no good reason (barring a fairly minor code change) that it could not be extended to many more.

Good idea for development for 2.13. I'd personally love to have free access to all airfields.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the replies. I'll have a look at the editors but I am not particularly computerate :0(

Free access to all airfields for all planes would be marvelous. I wonder how many other people like just flying around realistic war period England?

It's pretty straightforward using the mission editor,
I don't know why people seem to be afraid of it.
It's all GUI point'n'click, has some quirks, but it's
painless to muddle through. Just be sure you save
a copy of Quick.dat, which has all the IA missions
stored in it, so when you break something it's painless
to reconstitute. I just rename it to Quick_stock.dat
or somesuch (but you do need another copy of the
file with its original name for the editor to find and
mess with). Here is what one of my modified menus
looks like:
Image

NOTE:

There are five mission editors floating around; v1.0,1.1, 2,3, and 4.
1.0 and 1.1 I think are just a single file called editor.exe and editor1.1exe,
fairly straightforward, the exe is the editor. For v2 and beyond, the exe
you get is an installer, which makes a home for itself where it contains
a file called editor.exe and another called quick.exe. Best to let editor.exe
slide if you don't speak fairly fluent computerese, but the quick.exe is the
same point'n'click as in the first versions, and is pretty painless. v4 is
supposed to be bugfree and allows 200 missions, but won't run on anything
prior to BoB2 v2.04, so the readme says. I did most of my edits with 1.1 and
2, and never encountered problems.

Hi PV
I'll see if I can pluck up the courage to give it a go. I suppose if I completely muck the whole thing up I can just uninstall and reinstall the whole game!

It is in the BFIELDS folder. Named quick.

All versions of the editor I've tried work fine and its fairly straightforward to create simple take off or landing missions.
However I made a copy install of 2.12 for the TM and the editor doesn't work in that, or rather the missions it creates don't appear in the quick mission list. I need to look into it further as I've renamed that installs folder to 'Battle of Britain II_TM' and wonder if that's upsetting it as the editor is looking for 'Battle of Britain' or 'Battle of Britain II'.

edit: it seems that the editor is sensitive to what you name the folder, it doesn't mind 'xBattle of Britain II' for example.
So the correct thing to do would be to put put the TM install on another part of the drive. I guess if I read the manual it would tell me that!

I forgot, I recently made a screenie of the editor GUI:

Image

This reminds me of some things to know: Some of the versions have a help,
and also an accompanying readme. The readme is quite large; it has a fairly
good but rather brief introduction to the QuickMission editor, buried 3/4 the
way through, labelled "Part 3".

You pretty much must start an edit by opening an existing mission and changing it.
If you want to add new bits to your available mission menu, without overwriting the
existing missions, the first thing to do once you''ve got a mission open which you want
to use as your base is to save it under a new name. Of course, I don't exactly remember
how you do that, but it must be fairly straightforward...

Put me down as one! But particularly in the Tiger Moth which doesn't seem to be available anymore. It was coming along fine when suddenly .... pouf!.... 'twas no more. I think it was something to do with beggarin' up the Campaign which would have been no sad loss really, especially as the RAF SPC is currently pretty well non-functionable.

Or maybe it's just me getting old! :?

Hi Borton
Not sure what you mean when you say the TM isn't available any more.

PV wrote:We set about preparing for such expansion several years ago, and discovered
that the addition of a new plane, even though it seemed the code allowed for

But we have a few new coders stepping up to volunteer these days, so perhaps
at some point we will crack it. In the meantime, our first additional trial aircraft,
the Tiger Moth (a fairly simple project used to test the process, and unfortunately
reveal the problems), is available to fly, in a special beta install which must be
set up distinct from your standard install, basically as a sandbox where it can
wreak its havoc on the campaign system, but as long as you don't ever try to
run a campaign in that install, it doesn't matter. I believe you can fly some
IA missions as well but not with the spitfire which is replaced by the TM (but
I may have that wrong). Anyway, it is found here:
