Imageshack

Post by Baza »

I use Imageshack to host my images for viewing via the net. I clicked on a Google image yesterday and was directed to a web page showing an image of a Windows Control Panel and saying my computer was infected with multiple viruses; simultaneously Avast! kicked in to say a malicious site had been blocked.

To tell the truth, at first I panicked but then realised it was only a web page image and closed Firefox, disconnected from the internet and ran a virus scan using Avast! and malware scans using Adaware and Windows Defender, all of which turned up nothing but a couple of 'privacy issue' cookies. However, every time I now connect to Imageshack, Avast! tells me it has blocked a malicious site, although I can still view my images. I guess the virus report on the web page was bogus and it was trying to get me to buy some form of virus protection.

Does anyone have any experience of this? I tried Google and there appears to be lots of problems associated with Imageshack and my concern is that I don't pass on any viruses/malware by people accessing my screenshots on here (if that's possible).

The same has happened to me on Imageshack as well---one of those phony redirecting antivirus scam pages. Like you, all my shots for BoBII are hosted on that site.

As you were, men! I've just logged on to Imageshack, both directly and via a link in an email, and everything appears to be normal again.

Maybe they've cleaned the dodgy stuff off the site?

For this same reason I no longer will view images at imageshack.

Right-click on an image and view the properties - if its at imageshack I do not click on the image link.
