Another excellent idea for a mod 3lima33. It should be possible by editing the templates that we already have to follow the new pattern then using them to select the areas to be re-coloured. Sometimes I personally find the initial results aren’t always as expected, as with the spitfire cockpit I'm finalising, but it's most likely possible to get the required result eventually. Would this change be for all or just some of the spitfire squadrons?

I have looked, but the rear Dark Green band on the RH fuselage (in the B Scheme, featured on all the BoB2 Spits I think) seems always to have covered the top of the fin and been swept forward, roughly parallel to the DG band under the cockpit; not back.

So all (five?) BoB2 Spit paint scheme variants would need altered.

That's fine. I was just reminded that when I was looking at the hurricane textures I was surprised to find that one of them uses an entirely different camo pattern. I lightened the spitfire cockpit mod a bit and I think it looks quite good but can still be changed if there is room for improvement. I learned a bit about the difference between the lightness and brightness tools was using while making this and was also slowed down a bit as I needed to find the location and shape of a component on a blank area of the texture. https://www.mediafire.com/file/h53zb1a3 ... 3.zip/file

Looking good!

I think BoB2's Spits and Hurris all carry the B Scheme, the variations being in the undersurfaces:

Image

Image

Apparently the A and B Schemes were alternated on both aircraft during production runs, with one pattern on aircraft with serial numbers ending in an odd number, and the other pattern on the even numbers. As seen on this well-known pic of 19 Squadron, about 1938 - B Scheme on K9794 nearest the camera, A Scheme on K9797 next to it.

And on Treble-one's Hurricanes...

If each BoB2 Hurricane and Spit camouflage variant (as described on p.184-5 of the BDG 2.13 manual) has its own upper surface camouflage texture, then some variation could be introduced eg Hurricane scheme 1 could feature the A Scheme, and scheme 2 could use the B Scheme, and so on.

Useful to know about. I haven't thought much about the markings but having two schemes would have been efficient. I think there are 9 spitfire and 9 hurricane base multi-skin camo textures. Presumably the tail number is the manufacturer's aircraft number and in BoB2 a few representative numbers appear to be used which include some even and some odd number endings, which could be changed anyway if that were not the case. So it also looks to me as though the patterns could be changed and made to agree with the final number on the relevant aircraft texture reflecting that system to an extent.

Probably the final version of the spitfire cockpit. I usually find that there is no easy way and they always take much longer than anticipated. http://www.mediafire.com/file/h89qdzm81 ... 4.zip/file. I might have lost track a bit but I had also been meaning to produce a mod to make the colour look better.

Thanks Boreas, have just downloaded this. At the moment I'm hooked on the previous version, plus your lighting effects mod, plus your stock terrain mod.

A similar mod for the Hurricane cockpit, and a fix for the incorrect slope of the dark green area on the Spit's rear RH side, and I'll be in hog heaven, wherever that is :)

I’ve started on darkening the hurricane canopy but want to try to get the the spitfire cockpit mod a shade lighter before proceeding. So far I’ve just made a quick check to see whether editing the camo for about half of the the spitfire and hurricane multi-skin textures seems possible. There are some smaller things like exhaust ejectors and possibly the spinner cones for the spitfire and hurricane. Maybe the spitfire could be made a little darker as it seems to me to be lighter than the hurricane with less colour saturation most noticeably if viewed against the terrain at low altitude sometimes.

I'm using a darker trees mod http://www.mediafire.com/file/i85d1pl7c ... d.zip/file my most recent terrain mod.

The spitfire darker canopy frames and cockpit re-colour mod which I will copy the the mods thread. I haven't compared it to the first version :) https://www.mediafire.com/file/c4a53n0p ... 5.zip/file

A quick test of the hurricane darker canopy mod before I track down some smaller details. I think the stock hurricane cockpit already had some degree of canopy darkening. Not sure if this looks too dark or too light. Any input will be appreciated. https://www.mediafire.com/file/7emdvcxy ... t.zip/file

Great! Grabbing it now for a 'before and after' check ride. At the moment I'm enjoying the combination of the brighter terrain, the new lighting effects and the darker Spit cockpit, having been flying the latter in my most recent campaign missions... https://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ ... f-campaign

The combo of darker cockpit and modded lighting seems to accentuate the changes in light effects as you fly around, next best thing to actual dynamic shadows. It also produces some nice lighting effects on aircraft in external view.

Only some small changes in this version as the texture for the top of the dashboard has evaded me. But maybe it serves its purpose adequately. http://www.mediafire.com/file/t3py5tnd7 ... 2.zip/file

Some lovely touches in that airfield shot, including the cammy netting - it can only be Croydon?
