Okay so I guess I am like every other married flight simmer out there....I get very excited about technical breakthroughs and my achievements in the virtual air and share them with my wife to the degree she is willing to listen.
I also have to admit that I have had some trouble understanding the new version of the Track IR software. I was getting very frustrated with jumpiness, especially when I tried to track a plane over my shoulder. Careful observation in the viewing software, I realized that when my head went up, the tracking was going down, when my head went down, the tracking went up. Just had never noticed that the Y direction needed to be inverted.
All that being said, got it configured correctly and immediatly went out and shot down two planes and had much more satisfaction with the Track Ir. I'm sure I have been running it improperly for 6 months!
Gave the Wife the update with much enthusiasm....the response...
" Honey, that's great, but I need to understand something. It seems like if you were a real flying ace it wouldn't take you six months to figure out that you didn't understand which way your head was turning...."
hmmmm....she' got a point
Merry Christmas.

aha.. another BoBII widow.
At least you come back from the war. Eventually
As I always joke with my wife- "you know, there a ton of worse things I could be doing in my study all night than bombing Germany" (as she describes BoBII).

My wonderful wife of 43 years will never understand my love and time commitment to BOBII.
I just tell her I could spend the time out drinking and chasing women.

Buddye, 43 years is impressive, my wife and I have been married for 29 years.......thankfully she has developed a serious addiction to Peggle, so she has some understanding.

And if by chance, your wife watches "Snakes on a Plane" on cable
and by chance she´s paying attention when the fat boy tells that he´s got over 2000 hrs flight time.......on Flight Simulator.....
and she turns to you and says "just like you, honey"
it´s hard
LOL
or she catches this as you head for a submarine afternoon patrolling somewhere:

Re: The Wife puts a virtual flyboy in his place!
Well, I have been updating my wife on this thread, since her initial comment sparked the conversation.
She was entertained by the responses and commented that perhaps I should start a new thread where spouses commented on the impact of flight sims on their households, getting the perspective from the outside.
A dangerous and entertaining suggestion!
I noted that she would have to sign in as "Geezer's Wife".....
.....her level of interest in her own suggestion dropped off considerably.

Yes, this would be asking her to step into the lion's den.
The funny thing is that over the years of my passion for simulation I have met so many wonderful people; the veterans, up and coming youngsters, heavyweight historians, technical gurus, aviation nuts, even the very people that fly our handful of 70 year old aircraft aloft today. And they have all been passionate, stimulating and above all, humble. I don't know many areas of life where you could claim such diversity. I really don't.
